I will write you something properly, Rachel. I'll finish this story first.

After a couple weeks, Annette moved into Williamstown, extended her visa by some months and took took a turn towards this picture. It depicts the two buildings behind her site at Southbank.

Unfortunately I can't put up a higher res pic as this is quite amazing. Each window depicts an independant one frame cartoon/story and the characters on promenade in front of the buildings depict Aboriginal dancer/artist, Bronwyn, p.artists Bev and Diana (Bev playing guitar), their drawings, regular eccentrics, the cafes and customers even the ubiquitous drunk.

All drawn as green and pink frogs.

    It's about 1.5 x 2 metres (4' x 6')

Next, Annette decided to tackle the most famous place in Melbourne.
"The steps under the clocks" at Flinders St. Station is the city's iconic "meeting place", unparalleled in the volume, diversity and eccentricity of it's characters. To Melbournians the jokes are all over the picture.

In less than 8 weeks Annette has gone from about $15 for 4-5hrs work to umm,,,,,,,, lets just say very adequate money. This, in a city that is home to at least 5 of the world's best pavement artists.

The strange part of this story is that Annette, beside being Swiss, had never before seriously considered any form of art as a lifestyle option, she is a Doctor. She arrived in Aust, went to Alice Springs and travelled across the desert in a campervan with her boyfriend, also a doctor, to Adelaide then along the Great Ocean Rd to Melb. Here they parted ways, he back to work and Annette to have a couple of weeks travelling alone along the East Coast, Sydney, etc, then home via another couple in the States.

      That was 10 weeks ago.

What I find so wonderful about her work is the astounding humour and observation of my city through the eyes of a visitor, albeit a quite remarkable one.

She started a new pic 3-4 days ago. I can't wait.

BTW Rachel, Pavement Art 101 is at http://www.performers.net/forums/sho...7970#post37970

        Ade-Lisa

Another installment from the season backlog.. Ade-Lisa, Mona on holiday in Adelaide.

I had lots of fun drawing this. Great response, and support, helped me work hard.. By dredging- and then dressing- up an old favourite (the 'Lisa), I could work large on this 3 day-er. Would have liked another day to draw the "Chrome balls", City, opals and dessert peas.. annoyingly I can see them very clearly in my mind's eye!.

I've now done the Melba-, Freo-, Moaner-, Newie- and Ade- Lisa... Plenty more towns to visit with 'Lisa..

Annette Suter has left Melb. and headed for Cairns where she plans to explore the reefs and rainforest rather than pavement art for a week or so. I've lined her up with Che Forrest in Kuranda. A great guide who can only make her stronger.

This pic is Annette's (a tourist) version of Uluru (formerly known as Ayer's Rock).

She's off to Auckland and, thanks to Nick's post in another thread, applied for a license. Then off to San Francisco. Her ticket/s are very flexible and she wants to enjoy this while she can.

If any-one in Auckland or San Fran has a spare room they could offer, Annette is a good guest.

If any-one in NZ, US or Canada (nudge, nudge, Jody, Lynneski, Shelley et al) wants to 'discover' this artist or can offer a gig, she's in no hurry to go back to being a doctor in Switzerland.

Email me and I'll pass it on.

          We hope she travels safely.

            my first

            Hey.
...This isn't a "hype" or anything. I'm not particularly proud of it, but I'm not particularly ashamed of it. S’nothing to brag about, I just wanted to share my first.
I’ve started a new job, working from home, and I finally got some time and energy and chalk.
3 hours, 15 bucks in the “thank you” bucket and an important lesson -- I can't spend three hours rubbing chalk into the pavement with my raw fingers. ow.
But on the upside, I could probably burgle homes to my hearts delight now that I have no fingerprints left.
I'll work on the impulse to rub with my fingers. It's the painter in me. It works on canvas.
Knowing where I was going to do this thing, I chose to appeal to the teenage boy demographic -- the ones who generally loiter in that area.
Only one teenaged boy asked me,
            "But what does it meeeeean??"
By the time I got to the detail of the robot, I started getting a horrible allergic reaction to SOMEthing (which I still have), and so most of that robot was drawn while violently sneezing.
The boys liked it the most, but it was the old ladies who gave me money.
Downtown Hamilton needs more art. There's not a whole lot of money in it, but they'll love you.
I also met the director of the Downtown Art Center, who invited me to show work there. He also put a little somethin' in the bucket.
            Coo’.

            So, that was my today.

Now I need to go grow some finger skin back.

PS: Look at how detailed and three-dimensional that pigeon looks! Now THAT is talent!!

              Sorry Rachel

I really should have put up "Pavement Art 102" last week. I was a little busy.

When you talk about pride, are you talking about the picture you posted, because who cares. Are you not proud enough of actually going out and doing it in public, taking the leap, dealing with the passing parade and more?

This is, after all, the pavement artists' version of "Hype Yourself Blatantly" thread and if you don't really want to play.......well!

I put up P.Art 102, pls read about how dangerous it is to use you fingers. You should have replied that you had done your home-work.

You over did it with the pigeon, it screws up your narrative.

I was talking about the picture itself.
Thanks for 102. I'll go read.
Well, maybe I WILL just keep telling myself that.

...And I really hope teh allergic reaction wasn't to the pastels.
I'm mildly allergic to a lot of things, but that was by far the worst reaction I've ever had... whatever it was.
Maybe I'll go stick my face into the bucket of chalks now, to see.

                    Hi Rachel
Really liked your robot and shark pic. I bet a lot of other people did to.
I think if you want to pursue this art form try using brushes and perhaps gloves if you have a reaction to the chalks.

I remember feeling quite yuckie from some of the pastels we used to use when I first started. I began with the crappiest of chalk and graduated to the better grade of pastels . You look like your using good pastels to start with . They are the only ones you can fix well and keep their colour even after the rain.

Keep it up and I'm sure theres plenty of festivals on your side of the world that may employ a good pavement artist.

I had some fun a week or so ago at a local festival. They wanted me to use their logo and theme, both of which were quite cool.

"Through the senses" was their theme and the stylised artwork (logo) is all their's. Only the rose is mine.

I did 5 pics in all, each using the logo but playing with a different sense.

Don't forget to smell the roses.

After "Smell", I thought "Sound" would be good.

                          Same logo etc.

Sorry if I'm boring anyone or everyone but this was started as a "Hype Yourself Blatantly" thread and I did enjoy doing this stuff.

                              This was "Sight"

The last one was "Taste", inspired by Ulla Taylor's picture in Edmonton.
It was a little festival but much fun for some-one (me) trying to re-discover or re-invent what they (I) enjoy.
