Well, it has happened again: Another fine newspaper article. This time in the Evening Herald (Dublin, Ireland) - (Thurs Nov 8,01) Byline Linde Naughton

    Enjoy,

    Bill "Stretch" Coleman

    STILTWALKER'S NEW RECORD <ep>
One man hard to ignore at the adidas Dublin Marathon was Bill "Stretch"
    Coleman.<EP>
He was the guy on stilts, a 48 year old window cleaner and clown from
Denver, Colorado, who believes in "walking tall and stretching
    imaginations". <EP>
This was Bill's second trip to Dublin, and the good news is that he did
finish before dark. Indeed his time of 8 hrs 53 mins was one and a half
hours faster than in 1999. <EP>
It also meant he raised $5,878.20 for the Arthritis Foundation Joints in
Motion charity, putting him third on their list and earning him a special
    crystal glass award. <EP>
For the race, he had dressed carefully. "I wore my ostrich plumed top hat
and yellow and red striped clown shirt accessorized with green gloves and a
    bright pink feather duster".<EP>
Once started, the weather was a factor. "A strong head wind forced me to go
faster to maintain any kind of momentum. The cross wind was the worst,
bringing me to a halt two or three times, and forcing me to crab walk, or
walk sideways to keep my bearings."<EP>
Bill reached halfway in 3:19.54, by which time the race winners would have
already had their showers and a cup of tea. He then slowed down
    drastically.
"By the seventeenth mile, my feet were heavily blistered. By the nineteenth
mile, the blisters had torn open and my feet were raw and shredded."<EP>
At that point, Bill was forced to stop and get his feet taped. "Although it
took 40 minutes to locate tape and apply it, it allowed me to continue.
Jerry, my partner, met me at the 20 mile mark and walked with me to the
finish. Good thing too - for parts of the last mile and a half, I took
    Jerry's hand
    to stay upright!"<EP>
Amazingly, there were still 26 people out on the course when Bill finished
    -
    and they weren't on stilts.<EP>
Apart from losing his hat, he had less adventures this time. "I didn't get
lost at all, let alone twice! And I never did find that kid that tried to
    pull my pants down."<EP>
His only regret was that while in Dublin, he never got to see the circus.
    <EP>
    Maybe next time <EP>

And AGAIN! This time in Westword, Denver's fine alternative weekly. Enjoy!

Stars, stilts and stripes: More than 2,000 job-hunters showed up at the Denver Post-Rocky Mountain News Career Fair at the Marriott DTC this
past Monday -- a sign of these unemployed times -- but not one of them was
nine feet tall. That's because Bill Coleman, aka Stretch, the amiable
stiltwalker who was kicked out of a previous Post-News fair at the Pepsi
Center, was too busy to test his luck again ("Walking Tall," July 19).

"I had other things I had to do and just didn't have time for it," says Coleman,
who supplements his window-cleaning business with stiltwalking and
giant-puppet performances. Coleman had arrived at the July 9 job fair
wearing his nine-foot-tall, red-white-and-blue Uncle Sam outfit and looking
for gigs; over the last five years, he's worked hundreds of events, including
company picnics, parades and festivals, business grand openings and holiday
parties. The job-fair promoters didn't appreciate his act, though, or the fact
that he was handing out his resumé and business card in the Pepsi Center
parking lot. They told him to take a hike -- him and the stilts he rode in on.

Had Coleman shown up at Monday's job fair, bigwigs would have been
hard-pressed to boot him this time, considering that Uncle Sam has enjoyed
quite a surge in popularity in the last few months. Then again, Coleman says
he hasn't been promoting his Uncle Sam character too much lately, partly
because he's been preparing for and recovering from stiltwalking his way
through the Dublin Marathon, which took place last month. (Coleman won an
award at the marathon, which benefits arthritis research, for raising the
third-highest amount of money; unfortunately, the prize itself, a crystal box,
didn't X-ray well and had to be hand-inspected at Gatwick Airport.) But
there's another reason he hasn't been pushing Uncle Sam, he says: to avoid
any appearance that he's trying to profit off the tragedies of September 11.
"And this time of year, the Candy Cane outfit is more popular, anyway," he
says. "No one is burning up the line looking for Uncle Sam."

Last Sunday, Coleman was dressed in a Mardi Gras-themed outfit for the
grand-opening ceremonies of Littleton's new Aspen Grove Lifestyle Center,
the biggest thing to hit Front Range shopping since FlatIron Crossing opened
way back in 2000. Of course, the grand opening wasn't without a few
fireworks -- ones that apparently sounded like gunshots. According to a
November 13 news report, police received around sixty panicked phone
calls from people who thought the 9 p.m. fireworks were really a gun battle.

A controversial opening? Yes. But then again, a "lifestyle center" such as
Aspen Grove -- which incorporates traditional streetscapes with sit-down
restaurants and upscale shops and is the hottest new trend in mall
development -- is apparently a controversial concept itself. Just ask the
International Council of Shopping Centers, which met in Denver two weeks
ago. One confab seminar -- "Lifestyle Retail Centers: Real Value or Irrational
Exuberance" -- focused on the effect of lifestyle centers on surrounding malls.

Not to mention the surrounding residents. Pop, pop goes the neighborhood.

            A couple of hypes:

            1) My book got a great review in the Providence Journal last week: One of the things the guy says is:

"Is there a better easy-to-read primer on the things that make Rhode Island one-of-a-kind? If so, I haven’t come across it. So, if you’re
tired of taking gifts of coffee syrup or Cianci’s sauce to out-of-staters, here’s an alternative!"

I couldn't have written it better myself!

You can read the whole review (we are one of 3 books talked about) at
Get the latest breaking news, sports, entertainment and obituaries in Providence, RI from The Providence Journal.

            2) I'll be performing my Flea Circus in the Boston Area next week (next Saturday!)

Here's the info if you can attend!

SATURDAY, JANUARY 19 at the Boston Puppet Slam
There will be a performance of some Chinese puppetry after mine (I believe)
            Tickets are $10 ($8 members)
Reservations are highly recommended (the place only seats about 100)
            Puppet Showplace Theatre
            32 Station Street
            Brookline, MA 02445-7338
            Phone: (617) 731-6400
            E-mail: info@puppetshowplace.org

            3) I'll be being interviewed all week online at inkwell.vue about my book.

And I got lucky-- I posted about my Saturday show and hyped it on the Boston's Craigslist.

And somebody from the Boston Phoenix decided to write an article:

                BITING ENTERTAINMENT
                Flea for all

                BY NINA WILLDORF

If your idea of an entertaining Saturday-night
activity is straining your eyes and getting
itchy, you're in luck. Providence clown Adam
Gertsacov will debut his flea circus (one of
about five that perform worldwide) at
                Brookline's Puppet Showplace Theatre.

That's right. Flea circus. You may have
thought they went the route of bearded ladies
and burlesque, but Gertsacov, who's been
touring the country for the past five years
with his two miniature stars, Midge and
Madge, claims "there's kind of been a
resurgence" of the Victorian-style side show.

After a sellout show as part of the Boston Puppet Slam, the Acme Miniature Circus will be back in Boston for more!

The show is a Victorian style flea circus that features Midge and Madge (Trained Fleas) that perform Spectacular Circus Stunts as seen before (and on top of) The Crowned Heads of Europe.

Details magazine called the show "one of the top alternative circuses in the country."

The Los Angeles Times said "Gertsacov can hold both the audience and his star performers in the palm of his hand."

The Providence Journal said "The Professor's fleas have the power to amuse."

And the Minneapolis Star-Tribune said "This wacky witty creature feature is funny, off-beat, and skillfully delivered by Circus Master Prof. A.G. Gertsacov. Bring the kids and avail yourself of this rare, once in a lifetime opportunity. (No Bug Spray allowed.)"

The show is approximately 35 minutes long, and is suitable for all audience members age 5-105.

Tickets are $8 ($7 for members)

Well if anyone lives around Cincinnati Ohio or close enough to pick up WEBN they heard Frack last night. Frack is opening for a band here on Wednesday called Vegas in Space and the studio had them come in to do a little live thing and they brought Frack along. The dj's couldn't get enough of Frack it was great. Guess they never had sword swallower in there. So Frack ate some bugs over the radio, hammered a nail in his nose, and sword swallowed with play by play from the dj it was great. 100,000 people around Cincinnati hearing Frack it was awesome. Just wanted to share, thanks

It depends on the venue-- That venue has about 110 seats.

I can play a venue up to around 250-300 people (although I think I might be able to expand that. Haven't done so yet. A little worried that people won't be able to see properly.)

Fracks show last night kicked some serious ass. It was great. New tricks were unveiled that the people loved. Having someone smash cement blocks on fracks chest and groin while laying on the bed of nails seemed to go over really well. And then the band liked it so much they want frack to open for them on the next show. Woo Hoo for frack.

The smashing of the cement block on the groin while laying on the bed of nails was a new one for frack. With some jokes added in it made the audience laugh there ass off. Then frack added another new one in with the ear weight lifting. Picked up the barstool and spun around in circles with it swinging from the ears. This one got huge roars from the crowd they loved it. Made frack a little dizzy afterwards but went over great.
