I went out to have a busk for the first time in nearly 2 years between Xmas and the New Year.

I chose a very touristy regional town called "Echuca" that needs to change it's busking regulations. Because of their hopeless regulations (they don't have any so it is illegal), my spot, whilst comfortable, was shit for the hat but I made front page and got statewide TV on New Years Eve. They are going to make rules to accommodate us and when I return I'll be able to work the spot I want.

Unfortunately the original reasons I had to stop doing this stuff were blatantly obvious and I don't know if I will actually be able to go back. The whole thing was physically crippling but hey, I kicked arse.

When I get the rules changed some-one will have to promise to go there and use them or I might have wasted my, and their, time.
    Every-one should watch their drawers!

Flea circus featured on BBC Radio Program

A remembrance of entomologist Miriam Rothschild includes flea circus owner Professor A.G. Gertsacov

      January 31, 2005 Providence, RI

Professor A.G. Gertsacov, Rhode Island flea circus impresario and proprietor of the Acme Miniature Circus, was featured on BBC radio program "Outlook" today. The occasion was a remembrance of Dame Miriam Rothschild, a noted British zoologist who was known for many years as "Queen of the Fleas" for her outstanding research in studying and cataloging fleas. Dame Rothschild passed away last week at the age of 96.

The show features a 15 minute interview with Gertsacov, as well as other noted flea authorities, including entomologist Amorette Brandt of the Royal Natural History Museum, and Ian Burgess, an insect specialist who sells insects to British scientists. On the program, Gertsacov recites flea poetry, does a bit of an old-fashioned flea circus "grind" from the show, and talks a little bit about the amazing acts he has taught his fleas to perform.

Gertsacov, who has performed his show over 700 times in the last 8 years, says of Rothschild, “She was an amazing woman who dedicated an enormous amount of her time, intellect, and money to a tiny creature. She really contributed to the world’s scientific knowledge of the flea in a great way.”

The entire flea interview starts at minute 26:30 and Professor Gertsacov's entrance into the program starts at minute 34:30

The show will be archived for the next week on the radio program website.

        Airborne Comedians with Lurk

This Saturday The Airborne Comedians will be performing at the Regent Theatre in Arlington, MA. Opening the show will be Martin Ewin (Lurk). Here's the release.

An evening with The Airborne Comedians and Special Guest, Lurk. Saturday February 12th at 8:00 P.M.

The Regent Theatre and Not Your Average Joe's are proud to present The Airborne Comedians, one of Boston's most popular First Night attractions and Special Guest Performer Lurk, a member of the Cirque du' Soliel roster of talent.

If you were one of the thousands of people who had the pleasure to see the Airborne Comedians' First Night performances, here is a chance to see these two talented, clever and high energy jugglers up close in the comfort of the Regent Theatre. Dan Foley and Joel Harris are the Airborne Comedians. A juggling/comedy duo who combine incredible and unorthodox juggling skills with an outrageous sense of humor. ... interpreting a disconsolate mime with a flyswatter ... that I'd pay to see.

If I wasn't so annoyed I'd be angry

They won't touch me, well meaning signing people,!I was drooling with mischief, I was going to have the mime level plus signing for which I'd give them a script that had only the slimmest relation to what I was doing and to top it off I was going to incorporate a visual ticker-tape thingy with further dialogue on that for non deaf people that again was at 3rd cross purposes to my physical narritive.
They felt uncomfortable signing for a mime, and they don't even know me.
I have 20 minutes, I'm just going to make shit up.
I think I'll just move my lips.

Sunday night, ABC TV, Extreme Makeover -
Home Edition. Look for Stretch and 3 Friendly Giant Parade Puppets. And a bunch of my friends.

Two hour show, EMHE built homes for a couple of homeless families, we helped them celebrate. I think it starts at 6pm.

                Stretch...

I thought that was you. I especially recognized one of the giant puppets from a gig this past summer.

                  EMHE

Craig, thanks for noticing, you must have quick eyes!

The mardi gras puppet was in the background, and as was the lower half of the chili pepper puppet. I was disappointed that they didn't show the parade down the hill, since they had us do it twice!

There was a brief shot of Stretch swinging poi, again at a distance. Molly, aka Skiddles the clown, got some good coverage though. "Ok folks, let's go!" and on the photo gallary, a shot of her on her uni.

We started putting puppets together at 5:30 am, was ready at 7 am, , stood around until 8:30, when shooting started an hour late. Finally started packing up about 11 am. I've asked them for some raw footage, especially of the parade, since we had 3 puppets in it.

they did put us on the photo gallery though:http://abc.go.com/primetime/xtremeho....html?photo=12

I don't know how many people will actually see it, but we are also listed with our phone numbers in the credits:

So a little disappointing, but not so much different than what I expected. There will be other opportunities, or not. It was an interesting experience.

Last week I turned down the Denver Grand Prix offer. "Exposure", I could die of it. Since this is my second childhood, I try to stick to gigs that interest me. Stuck in a noise factory for
3 hours at half pay didn't interest me, so I turned them down. I'm sure they
will find some one else, just as I am sure that I will have other offers at full pay for that weekend.

The EMHE, besides the charity component, also came on a day when I had some time to spare, or rather, I could make time. And what else was I
going to do at 5 in the morning?!

                  Cheers!

                            Hey all,

I've just posted a new video clip from a show that Fritz Grobe (who some of you may know from past MotionFests) and I were involved with over the holidays. It is a juggling routine with birdhouses. Check it out at:

                                It's a free show...It's a flea show... Providence RI April 2, 2005

The Flea Circus Goes To The Academy
Low culture meets highbrow academics as the flea circus comes to Brown University on Saturday, April 2.

This is no April Fool's joke: next weekend, Brown University will be hosting a most unusual professor, and his even more unusual performers: Professor A.G. Gertsacov and his authentic Victorian flea circus will be gracing the stage as part of the eleventh annual Performance Studies International Conference.

The show, the Acme Miniature Flea Circus, is an authentic Victorian flea circus that features trained fleas Midge and Madge (stars of the show) who perform spectacular circus stunts as seen before (and on top of) the crowned heads of Europe.

Details Magazine called the show "One of the top alternative circuses in the country." The New York Times said "The appeal is irresistible... Gertsacov is every bit the fantastical impresario, in his purple top hat and cash-register voice, introducing us to the wondrous insects itching (sorry) to perform" And the Los Angeles Times says that "Professor Gertsacov holds the audience (and the stars of the show) in the palm of his hand."
