Okay-- well that WBUR thing hasn't yet aired, don't know why, but in the meantime, I was on the radio again! This time it was on Talk of the Nation.
They didn't mention me by name (those ratfuckers!) but they read a longish email that I sent to Neil Conan on Talk of the Nation on Aug. 1 about the reinvention of the classics (and they even read a short excerpt from my play: The Barbie Oedipus (including this segment)
Here's the conclusion of the play, spoken by Barbie as the Chorus:
BARBIE
Look, Oh countrymen and Thebans
This was Oedipus the Great
Who knew the Sphinx’s riddle
Yet was still subject to Fate.
And what lesson can we learn
From this great life that has been marred?
A simple truth has been proved
Tragedy, like math, is hard.

Adam,
You started this thread over a year ago and have posted at least half of all the responses ... so, could you please explain to me why the fuck I've never heard of you?

No idea. I'd never heard of you until I started reading this bulletin board. And then heard of you only through Motionfest. I don't do very much street work as a busker-- most of my work is paid gigs in theatres, or residency type situations, or teaching in schools. The only time I've been to LaLa Land I was at the RAT Conference (Regional Alternative Theatre Festival) and I don't think you were there. As part of a show there, I sunk the L.A. Theatre Center like the Titanic. (Oh, I was at the Orange County Showcase in 1999-- and got rejected as a guest from Jay Leno's show because the fleas were too small. Where's justice, I ask you? So, if you've never heard of me, I guess you should blame fucking Jay Leno!
So anyway, I guess we travel in different circles or something.
It's probably not because I don't hype myself enough!

AND HERE'S A HYPE FOR SOMEONE ELSE!
(Shocking I know!)
Jim Jackson presents ART GUFFAW
Jim Jackson is a very excellent clown from Colorado that I had the pleasure
of meeting last year at a showcase. He's presenting his show "Art Guffaw"
about an underemployed house painter who is afraid of color and cannot draw
a straight line, who ends up getting stuck in an art museum/studio.. I saw a
showcase presentation of this, which was fabulous. I'm looking forward to
seeing the whole thing!
If you are in the Rhode Island, Mass, or Connecticut area, this would be a great show to see!
Tickets are a measly $7.00!
The show is at Theatre By The Sea on Friday, August 9 at 10 am and 12 noon.
For ticket information call (401) 782-8587.
The theatre is located at 364 Cards Pond Road, Matunuck, RIComment

Here I am, hyping myself blatantly again!
I'm at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival from Sept 10- Sept 14.
digitalcity.com decided to use my photo to publicize the whole Fringe!
They also gave my show a PICK designation
Digital City Philadelphia
Victorian-style flea circuses first appeared in Europe in the early 19th
century, and gradually became less common as we entered the modern age.
Professional clown Adam Gertsacov keeps the amazing curiosity alive with
entomological entertainment that dazzles, disgusts and confuses his
audience. His tiny performers are real fleas -- human-blood sucking fleas.
But they are also real performers, racing on chariots, balancing on a
tightrope and being shot out of a cannon. Gertsacov uses a high-powered
microscope and tweezers to coax his little big top stars to do their
magical feats. And Midge and Madge happily oblige, as long as they are fed
a few drops of Gertsacov's blood. (This is too ludicrous and perversely
fascinating to miss, folks!)-- R. HowkinsComment

So. my next set of gigs are in New York at the Palace of Variety (Bindlestiff space at Chashama on Times Square.
There used to be a flea circus on Times Square, but in 1957 Professor Heckler packed up his bags and left, saying that the nude shows were giving his fleas a bad name. Now that Times Square has been cleaned up, I thought it was time to bring the fleas back!
I'm performing every Saturday and Sunday at 12 and 1 pm. In the evenings on Saturdays I'll be doing a lot of the bally's for the shows at the Bindlestiff
I've gotten a fair amount of press for the show (Picked by Time Out NY, Village Voice, and NY Observer as Picks of the Week) and some articles coming out in a few other places hopefully. At my first show the guy from the Associated Press came! So here's hoping!
Tickets are $8, and $6 for students, seniors, and the unemployed. This weekend Sept 28 and 29, the show is just $4 with the coupon (which is at the theatre) Come on by and check it out!
(Here's what Time Out Said (along with directions))
TIME OUT NY CRITIC'S PICKS
Acme Miniature Circus Bindlestiff Family Cirkus Palace of Variety
125 W 42nd St between Sixth and Seventh Aves (212-726-1935). Subway: N, Q, R, W 42nd St S, 1, 2, 3, 9, 7 to 42nd St-Times Sq. Sat, Sun noon, 1pm. $8; seniors, children under 12 and unemployed $6.
Get ready to fight the power of itchy suggestion at this Victorian-style
flea circus, in which stars Midge and Madge perform daring but hard-to-see
feats such as a tightrope walk, a chariot race and a flight out of a cannon. Master of ceremonies and flea trainer Adam Gertsacov is a seasoned clown who is the big cheese at Acme Clown Company and a worldwide performer. He promises the little buggers won't get loose to snack on anyone in the audience, but he does ask that you leave your dog at home.

Hey, guys, just a quick note of shameless self-promotion.
Next weekend (October 11, 12 and 13) I'll be apprearing in a vaudeville revival theater called the Palace of Variety and Free Museum of Times Square at 125 42nd St. in NYC. Three shows a day (7, 9 & 11 p.m.??) with the Bindlestiff Family Circus. I've got an eight-minute segment, which means I'll have to cut my street show back considerably -- but then, again, it turns out much of the show and some of my best jokes are attempts to remind my audience that THIS IS THE WAY I MAKE MY LIVING! (Brien Engle and I miss Sam Kineson!) And clearly they aren't appropriate for the more subdued and intellectual environment of a proscenium arch on "Broadway." I'm REALLY looking forward to it!
Hay, Adam -- I sure hope you're still there when I arrive!
Best Regards,

Damnit, I can't hold back. Chalk Circle just had the most kick-arse tour of Japan, making front-page press, TV and radio(????).
We work in a eclectic artform and have successfully introduced it to a society that has never even considered it.
I'm pretty happy.
We also completely changed and updated our website if any-one wants to look at http://www.chalkcircle.com.au/Every-one should watch their drawers!

Hi!
I know that this is not as impressive as most people's events, but I'm happy, as I've just seen a clip taken from our BBC news regarding an event we performed at! Okay, so the juggling clip is about 2 seconds long, but I'm pleased, and I'm hyping it! If anyone cares, the download is 4mb, and is called "Charter Day."

Neil
(And how come they catch you teaching somebody something simple, rather than doing something impressive?!)
