England out played portugal despite being man down and then it came down to those *&$*!!&&!! PKs.

I was hoping it would come down to France v. England in the final, (after England beat the krauts of course!)

maybe in 2010... but who knows maybe France will be back on a losing streak again. God damn I'm so happy that France be BRASIL.

1998 was no fluke.

we were workin at a gig that had 1000's of people at it but on the hour of the England game the place suddenly became utterly and absolutely deserted...then england lost and it remained deserted, footballs disgused as dustballs gently rolled across the site, a folorn child in the distance despondantly waved her shredded England flag at the closed icecream van, then wept.

A few hours later a few people turned up to see the £8000 fireworks display that was let off before it was dark. they were described in the programme as "day fireworks". So, really, we watched the trails of soot that remained after the explosion and the 2 men on the platform igniting them...

"Wog" in England is an extremely racist term, apparently it stands for "Western Oriental Gentleman" a very old phrase with nasty connections...

hey ho, life goes on after football...but our houses are still covered in flags...

I was in Italy for the Euro 2002 cup, which was Italy v France. I was (obviously) on enemy territory and was watching the game at a friends party and I was (obviously) the only France supporter.
At each call, or kick, or steal in Italy's favor, the entire room lept up and danced in my face and jeered. At each call, or kick or steal in France's favor I silently cheered.

The match came down to "golden goal" and when it went to France I totally forgot were I was and jumped up with my arms in the air and whooped and cheered. I suddeny remembered where I was and then looked around at the silence around me.

It was so sad. Although I wanted to jump in the car, wave the tricolour and blare the horn, everyone else just went to bed. It was the saddest victory. After that game I couldn't get a French newspaper in Italy for the next two months...

Even so... ALLEZ LES BLEUS!

Jester, I agree with you about the way the overtime is scored,
but to take men off is kinda cruel. They were all obviously exhausted. Unless you remove both goalies. and then it's won in a flash.
