Well, I can email an mp3, but then again, I never played enough re-faires to actually believe that the devil lives in the colored box on my desk. Yeah, just attach it to the email.
Yes, I'll be at the green room tonight, I'm there every wednesday, there's info about the club on my site.

      MORE MP3s!

Well, I think "musician" means someone who is passionate about music. And by that , not someone who just likes it...alot. And if it is your passion then you want to learn as much about it as possible. Sheet music is the language of music. It's like saying your an author but can't read.

Yeah, sure there's the occassional genius who can't read but can compose. These are a billion to one - a grain of sand on a beach. People always bring this up to defend the other side of the argument. Believe me (I usually argue) , if they were one of these people there is no way they'd be playing at the local pub at 25yrs old.

....and Beethoven was deaf and Ray was blind. Some people are just born for music.

          Anyhoo - ROCK ON!!!!!

            correction:
Sheet music is the standardized western European language of music.
Sound is the language of music.

And where the !@#? is your mp3?

              Oh, that's good.

How do you know about my mp3? Maybe i don't have one - I don't know. I just realised that my speakers aren't attached anyway. I should get my brother around to fix it all.

I'd say sound is the vehicle of music.

The rock>talk ratio in this thread is grossly unbalanced, if you want to debate music theory we should do it somewhere else, I just want to swap original music.

orig posted by the good Dr:

                  "where is NYstreetdean"

I'm here, and I have to admit ignorance. I have no idea how to post any recordings or such to this site. Have I taken the time to figure it out? Not really. I don't have anything on an MP3. I don't know how to do that. I have CD recordings and finale (comp software) playbacks. I'll try to post some finale recordings after I read the rest of Jesters crap for the day/hour. If I can't figure it out I'll either do what the good Dr. says to do, or I'll ask a friend that will be able to do it.

I would like to thank you because after finishing the requirements for the comp degree, I have done very little writting. This thread has made me get off my ass and start working again. Thanx

                  As for the piece posted:

i could only listen to the parts as they were streaming but putting it together in my head, I really liked it.

I heard a good deal of influence from Berg. Am I right? And of coarse Stravinsky, but even Beethoven was influenced by Igor so that goes without saying (Don't think to hard).

One thing I would like more of is I heard a really nice Bass part but only for a second. It may have been in more and I did'nt hear it or it got fucked up from the streaming but I liked the balance that it provided.

As far as the ending, somebody wanted more. I totaly disagree, I really liked the way it ended. But thats whats important about music really, I think. You don't need to be a "musican" to have an opinion. The opinion of the highest trained virtuoso has no more weight than the house wife listening to Josh Grobin (but really, that is crap).

As far as the discussion on the need to be able to read music to be a musician, I don't know if I want to comment because I don't know if I have an opinion yet. I would like to throw a wrench: a couple of years ago I went to a round table between three of the best known modern composers, modern meaning they are currently in their output stage of their career. One of them is a highly skilled performer. The other plays a very small amount of piano and nothing more. The third plays no instrument what so ever. What does this say about their legitimacy as composers? I'll give my thoughts after a couple other people respond.

You can rip your CD into mp3s, or you can output your finale files to .wav's and convert them to mp3 with a program like Wavelab, then, you have to upload them to a server (or get someone else to do it for you) and then you post a link like this http://www.newyorkstreetboys.com/som...eothershit.mp3

if you want some help, email me, and let's get some mp3's apumpin' in here.

By the way, you should be able to download my link rather than letting it try to stream, it's just a raw link, it's your browser (or probably quick time) that's trying to stream it.

i dont know nuttin about music

but i'd like to hear what ya'all are doing musically...

i remember dean'o' jotting squigglies and lines on a fancy piece of paper... it looked serious...

and though he never returns my calls i'd like to hear if the squigglies and lines make pretty bingbong noises

and eric.. your music was.. not to my taste... which means it is probably good... as most know i have horrible taste.

i mean my favorite song is signal to noise... so there!

i was married to a girl who played jazz piano , and i was told by many people she was very good... but i grew up on hillbilly banjo music and punk... every time she pulled out the keyboard i would go shopping... for anything.

someone explain how cacophany is good...
                      please.
