You could be missing a valuable puzzle piece here; ie the double apostrophy. Double apostrophy is the broken typewriter way of making a quotation mark. Where's the other quotation mark? Could be that this is simply the most important part of a sentence. Using my linguistic decoding skills learned by watching Lassie as a child, I believe $cottbox is trying to tell us something.

don''t let the HEAT out the COLD
    hmm...
Don " TL et the HE A Tout he CO LD

So, as you see: Don made a statement the statement that TL (upon closer inspection =
    the levitator )

What did TL do? TL et ( dialect past form of eat -- to affect something by gradual destruction or consumption)

et what? TL et the HE A Tout. Who is the he? Who is this tout? If you view the top of the newsletter on TL's site you'll see a short but thorough trouncing of Valentino "The Masked Magician."

he co ld seemed to be a grammatical anomaly. Then, I found "he" is the fifth letter of the hebrew alphabet -- a counterpart to our letter "e" now we have eco LD. LD the common scientific abreviation for "Lethal Dose" Signifies the unexpected power of this final statement against the man of no mystery.

Leonard Montano has been criticized widely as a villain to the world of performance magic which we all treasure. As these mere words challenged his standing in the magic world, he fought to stay alive. His attempts at further television appearances failed and fumbled. His life in the magic habitat, crumbled. He was dying and the fatal yet not final blow came in the form of a paragraph on a young man's website.

My interpretation of $cottbox's message: Our lives and our social footholds are fragile. Even James Anthony can screw things up for you. Live life to the fullest and don't be afraid to kick the outside on the top sometimes.

See what happens when you don't do drugs, or have sex, and isolate yourself in a foriegn country, at a theme park masquerading as another foreign country? Let this be a lesson to you all, and Scot, come home, we're worried about you.

          missing the obvious ...

"Then, I found "he" is the fifth letter of the hebrew alphabet -- a counterpart to our letter "e""

Only in that it is the 5th letter. "He" that you refer to is pronounced /hay/ or /hey/ (in older arenas) and is more closely related to the letter H in our alphabet.

"Don't let the heat out the cold"

Obviously refers to keeping the police or some such powerful group or possibly an army, i.e., the "heat" from telling everyone that someone referred to as "the cold" is gay. Who is "the cold"? Well, The Cold obviously refers to some sort of Cold War, or the leaders of it. As the most recent US enemy country in a cold war was the USSR, the majority of which we call Russia these days. The leader of Russia is now Vladimir Putin.

Therefore, we are supposed to keep some sort of international strong force from telling the world that Vladimir Putin is gay.

            it means:

DO let the heat IN the cold

            only different!

            or

            It means:

Do NOT let the heat out (in the) cold!

            unless it means

Do donot let enable cause prevent
a the all theheat thecold theheat thecold
            thelackofheat activity authority cease
            temper quench

stave off the heat death of the universe!

I love that non-white now equals "cultural"
