I just got home from the Sparks Street Fest where the topic of what a great resource this site is came up frequently, as it usually does. Not only is it a way for us to keep in touch or take the piss out of eachother, its also a really great way to find work or find performers. That being said, there are often times that I feel guilty for never sending any money to Jim. From what I've heard, most of us should probably feel the weight of this guilt. Jim puts a lot of time and, lets face it, money into this site and does a great job of keeping it running for us.
I have never sent him any money because it never seems to be the right time to do it, or more simply, I'm lazy. Thats why I'm posting this thread. Its time for us to get some money Jims way. We came up with a few ideas in Ottawa that we would like to get rolling and would like to see what other people might come up with.
Idea #1
-At festivals there is always people saying how much they hate their small change, they will even tell their audience that they don't want it. However if you put together all of the unwanted change from everybody at the festivals, it could add up to a good deal. That's why we need to start "Pennies Plus for P-net"
At each festival, we can put out a fishbowl for the change that the performers don't want to roll or feel like contributing in the bowl and then one of the performers at the festival is responsible for sending a money order to Jim.
Idea #2
-Checkerboard has suggested that we start doing, whenever possible, a group show in support of P-Net. Five min. of your time in a show could help Jim get the thanks he deserves. If we can get event planners support on this it would be really helpfull.
David is going to Waterloo and Windsor, and Ash Circle is on their way to Halifax. They are both going to try and get the ball rolling in those cities. We did what we could in Ottawa. Any other ideas? Let's start supporting the resource that many of us rely so heavily on.
And don't walk away like those cheap bastards. (sorry, thats the only time I've used that)
One last thing- when you do send the money orders, it will save Jim a lot of money if you have the post office convert it to US
