    Everyone;
    Of course Julio's gonna move on. He doesn't have a choice. Just because he can still work, doesn't mean this isn't an issue.

    Julio;
    I've run into prejudice on the streets in Venice, N.O., Nashville, NYC, and a lot of other places. It sucks. It's sad to see that so many people hold on to this idea that we are born unequal.

    In my activist days ( about 45 days total) I had the idea that divisions between classes and races were encouraged by the government in order to keep us from unifying for a better planet. I still see hints at this in the news media. Elections, marches and meetings of the minds get divided and ignored because we have to say "I'm not part of that group."

    All of us here have the power to challenge these ideas. We have a lot of power since we influence so many. Every time you make a "I'm a white man, I don't have any rhythm" or "Your black dong must be huge" joke we are encouraging the idea that there's an "us & them" instead of a "me & them" or just "us"

    Scot

      thank you scot i realy appreciate your view thanks for taking the time to answer the "TOPIC". yes it is an issue that cannot be ignored because it happens to all of us at some point and since we have this forum where we can share our experiences and hopefully show support for each other. like you said i will move on because street performing is what i do for a living and must always be prepaired to adjust according to the situation and i will. but lets not forget that at some point anyone of us may cross paths one day and can't loose site of the unwriten rules of street performing and most of us all have bills and family's all of us should have the right to work wheather it's on a private pitch or a public street.

        Dudes,

        a) Julio, sorry to hear Faneuil Hall turned you guys down. You've got a great act.

        b) I'm a middle-of-the-road run-of-the-mill white juggler boy. Faneuil Hall management gave me a hard time when I called on the phone. The management did not seem very welcoming toward a "new" act's query... even though I'd played there in the past.

        c) I have friends up that way who were cut from the Boston program although they'd been in it for years.

        d) Scot, one of my pet peeves is the idea that we should ignore differences between ethnicities. We are different. These differences are the spice that makes people interesting. It's the racist bastards that use these differences to declare a person or group inferior that are the problem.

        And you know what? Everyone has some biases and prejudices. In some way, we're all racist bastards. To say you have no prejudices is to set yourself on a pedestal, and I don't mean the hackneyed-human-statue-milk-crate sort of pedestal. (Hey, look-- I've just shown a prejudice!) I mean a pedestal of perfection which will allow you to look down on people you think are racists. In essence, you're being discriminatory. You're discriminating against people for their belief system because you believe differently. Thousands of wars have been started because of this same thing. It's all your fault, Scot. You should apologize. The end is near. Scot is one of the Horsemen of the Apocolypse.

            I can't quite make out the connection between failing to get a gig at a well known conservative venue and racism.
            Of course there's discrimination here, Duhhhhh, it's an "audition".
            It's more a subjective artistic prejudice that you will run into at auditions than racism.
            The Dixies Chicks were mentioned in another line here recently. Mixed liberally through what was a conversation about politics was a constant bagging of their act(not politics) despite obvious skills and a powerful show. It was a distinct prejudice based purely on taste.
            There will be lots of "wrong time or place" events. It's not worth reading anything more into it.
            Every-one should watch their drawers!

                I hope everyone understands i did not say anything about pregudice i believe we were dicriminated because of the nature of our act and who we are meaning urban typed entertainment. keep in mind there all types of races in urban america. they do all types of entertainment everything from rappers, break dancers,skate borders and free style bikers. i don't think that kind of entertainment is what faniuel hall wants in there program. they will have that kind of entertainment for a special community day event but they won't employ an act of that nature full time.

                  hey Julio,
                  you don't know me ,I'm an acrobat from the UK, i recently did a gig with some london breakers and it was at one of the most exclusive private schools in the country where the really rich kids go, and we got booked BECAUSE we were "urban" and raw. so it sometimes works aginst us , but it can also work in our favour sometimes.
                  if I was you I'd be fucking pissed off, that sucks , this fanywell hall or what ever seems to be holding auditions like jim says , as a publicity stunt.
                  fuck'em
                  as for writing in capitals, I think it was appropriate, I'd probably be shouting about it too.
                  AJ

                      Okay, okay.
                      I've re-thought my position about everyone being racist bastards. I had not yet had so vivid a example of "racist" until today. This redneck's hilarious. It's a radio call-in show prank, which is about 3.2 mb download, but worth it).

                        when you get tired of dealing with the yankees, come down to the "dirty south" where your act is missed a great deal!!!!
