New variety club in Edinburgh, Scotland

I'm looking for 'interesting' acts to book for a new 'variety entertainment' clubnight that my partner and I are starting in Edinburgh early in 2007.

As a booker and co-promoter, I'd like to hear from jugglers, contortionists, burlesque acts, plate-spinners, ventriloquists, comedians, magicians, sideshow freaks, novelty acts, drag-acts, dancers (tap or belly), etc. The more unusual, the better!

To begin with, the club will only operate once a month on a Friday night. The venue is very small (capacity of only 80 people), but we'll consider anybody who can deliver a short performance - amateur or professional - and there will probably be a maximum of 8 'performance slots' available throughout each night.

Because we want to keep the admission price deliberately low (in order to make sure the venue is packed!), the cost of using the venue* and promoting the night mean that our budget for performance fees will be minimal - which probably means that we'll only be able to attract local talent or (if we're really lucky) performers who are travelling, on holiday/vacation, or who are going to be in this neck of the woods for some other reason.

However, on the 'plus' side, we are sure that our promotional and marketing expertise will mean that performances at the club will be a major 'promotional' opportunity for artists, as well as being a genuine springboard for talent.

Please feel free to contact me by email [lenny_love@hotmail.com] or on my mobile phone [07931 341 423] for more details.

    * = For those of you who live outside the UK and/or don't know how this 'works', we (as promoters) take all the financial burden and pay for all the promotional costs and the use of the venue, but don't get any of the bar profit - the venue get all that. However - good news - their bar prices are ridiculously cheap and, unlike your typical venue owners, they're very helpful, friendly, and not greedy money-grabbers!

    Hey guys.

Lenny is a super cool guy who is also a really good DJ. His club nights are always fun. If you happen to be in Eburgh I'm sure this is a fun place to work.

Hi Lenny, this is Karl, the Swedish guy who always comes dancing with Angela in Eburgh during the festival. Good luck with your show and if I'm happen to pass through town I'd love to work with you. My website is www.catchmagic.com

    cheers

ACME Worker's Club - LATEST INFO!

Following the success of the first two nights of The ACME Workers' Club (on Friday the 2nd of February & Friday the 9th of March), the next one is scheduled for FRIDAY 30th MARCH 2007.

The clubnight is again being held at 11 Hillside Crescent (London Road), Edinburgh, Scotland.

We've had even more amazing previews and publicity from the local media (with even more to follow!), and we've again had a full line-up of performers - a magician, balloon modeller, a burlesque artist, an acoustic singer/songwriter (Marc Pilley, from Hobotalk), and THREE drag karaoke artists - all performing for between 5 and 10 minutes each. We also had great reviews from the night, with enquiries from numerous different media companies who want to run more features for the next night.

"Cheap admission, cheap food, cheap drinks, cheap thrills! And, at the end of the night, somebody will be going home with a chicken!"

Friday nights in Edinburgh will never be the same!

Many, many thanks to everyone who's been in touch with kind words and moral support - may your God of choice bless you (but leave the booking & promotion work to me!).

Following requests to take the club through to the West coast, we're now trying to find a suitable venue in Glasgow.

Naturally, we're also still interested in hearing from people who'd like to perform at The ACME Workers' Club on future nights!

If you'd like to get in touch, you can send me an email (to: acmeworkersclub@hotmail.com), or call me on my mobile phone (UK #: 07931 341 423).

Kindest regards to all performers all over this jumpin' green sphere from Bonnie Scotland,

Lenny [aka "Uncle David" - ACME Workers' Club Social Director & Talent Booker]
