I'm looking for 'interesting' acts to book for a new 'variety entertainment' clubnight that my partner and I are starting in Edinburgh early in 2007.
As a booker and co-promoter, I'd like to hear from jugglers, contortionists, burlesque acts, plate-spinners, ventriloquists, comedians, magicians, sideshow freaks, novelty acts, drag-acts, dancers (tap or belly), etc. The more unusual, the better!
To begin with, the club will only operate once a month on a Friday night. The venue is very small (capacity of only 80 people), but we'll consider anybody who can deliver a short performance - amateur or professional - and there will probably be a maximum of 8 'performance slots' available throughout each night.
Because we want to keep the admission price deliberately low (in order to make sure the venue is packed!), the cost of using the venue* and promoting the night mean that our budget for performance fees will be minimal - which probably means that we'll only be able to attract local talent or (if we're really lucky) performers who are travelling, on holiday/vacation, or who are going to be in this neck of the woods for some other reason.
However, on the 'plus' side, we are sure that our promotional and marketing expertise will mean that performances at the club will be a major 'promotional' opportunity for artists, as well as being a genuine springboard for talent.
Please feel free to contact me by email [lenny_love@hotmail.com] or on my mobile phone [07931 341 423] for more details.
* = For those of you who live outside the UK and/or don't know how this 'works', we (as promoters) take all the financial burden and pay for all the promotional costs and the use of the venue, but don't get any of the bar profit - the venue get all that. However - good news - their bar prices are ridiculously cheap and, unlike your typical venue owners, they're very helpful, friendly, and not greedy money-grabbers!
