    Hey Circusboy,
Finally made it here from the other place for you. I do balloons but don't do the whole clown routine anymore though lots of people still know me as Bounce the Clown. I go by Twis T. Bloons now.

      just trying...

I'm just trying to provide people with more alternatives to information. The "other" place does not seem to focus as much on real world situations, but rather alot of convuluted situations that rarely happen. I.e. a bunch of newbies. anyway's I whant to get together with some other twisters and find out where some good pitches are specifically for us, and how to deal with others effectivly. (i.e. other acts that crowd up the pitch to such a point that no one else can work,i.e. crowded out. no offense to those who might tend to offend like that , it just .... anyway.s . )trying to stay on this thread. balloon peeps UNITE.. angel

That was quick, Circusboy! Know what you mean about the "other" place. Lot's of traffic there but little useful info except in the archives. Can't stand the pettiness that goes on there. Still, I do monitor it to stay in touch with some of the people. Those who are willing to help or answer questions for the most part aren't active on the list. They tend to answer privately.
Personally, I hope to be in contact with any and all styles of street performers who want to talk with me. Though balloons are my primary medium I hope to learn more of entertaining and to understand street performing. I think there may be an advantage to hooking up with other styles.
So, any one out there willing to take a balloonist under there wing? I need some learnin'!

          hmmm.

can't say that I'm really eager to take any one under my wing. technically I'm not that great of a ballooner, but I am a fairly good clown, and one hell of a good vendor. (#1 or #2 seat vendor for ringling circus for many years, (not to mention disney on ice.)) I know alot of good venues, pithces ... good night I'm drunk angel

Hmmm. Maybe I should explain further as to what I mean by "taking me under their wing". I don't necessarily mean traveling and working with someone on their pitches though that would be a great advantage to learning about the street performing side. What I mean is someone or two or three that has an interest in helping people understand how to get started doing this without getting myself in trouble. This forum should help greatly but it would be nice to be able to ask someone directly if I have a a question or concern. I certainly won't hold it against anyone for not wanting to.
I've been working restaurants and private gigs for a few years now, and have done ok. I have worked a few fairs and festivals and much prefer this side but don't understand how to get into them or who to contact until it is too late.

                    planning....

planning yourself is one of the most important elements.... most event peoples whant 6months deadlines for applying to events. however alot of them can be convinced otherwise if you do balloons or face painting, depending on the level of expertise you present to them. you just need to get the dates and start calling peoples. it's really not that hard and that hard at the same moment depending on your ability to convince people . angel

Thanks Stretch, I checked out the link and the book. Looks like it is what I'm looking for. Anything that can point me in the right direction is greatly appreciated.

OK a branch off but still on subject (sort of.) I mentioned earlier that my wife and I do a LOT of restaurants doing balloons and face painting. I also busk doing magic and am very good with that. My question is: can you make good hats doing only balloons as a busker on the street?

Right now I average about $60 to 70 per hour in tips doing the restaurant thing. Ruth makes about $35 per hour. Would this be realistic on the street?

Dado does great, and has one of the most original shows I've ever seen. He makes one balloon.
