    Nanjing Clown Festival

Just thought I would be the first to post a short but interesting story, from my trip to China. Any one else who was at the festival feel free to post a story, because it was a pretty incredible experience and we all had some rather redonkulous adventures. Also lets open this thread to any other interesting international stories, any fun stories you may have from some of the most interesting countries you have performed in, from culture shock to bowel movements. tell all and tell true.

One of my favorite times from my most recent visit to China, begins with a long day of performing and fear of being illegally detained by the Chinese Government. As we made our entrance into the giant and rather ancient Olympic stadium in Nanjing China (which apparently never held the Olympics, they just liked the logo), we began our traditional morning parade; which was beginning to get a little undignified and degrading. Then some of the performers wanted to go out and grab a bite to eat, unfortunately that was not going to be possible as the folks at the front gates were told by the government rep. that the performers were not to be permitted to leave the stadium. Images of armed guards began to run through our heads, and I began looking to board up any door that might be holding the tigers, that were about to be released onto the stadium filled with clowns. Luckily this misunderstanding was quickly dealt with and we were free to go after about an hour.

After this particularly long and rather surreal day, we decided we need to go for a few drinks. Some one suggests that it is Oktoberfest time, and that there is a beer garden beside the stadium that might be a neat place to begin out evening of debauchery. We agree to meet in the lobby, and head over together.

As we approach our suggested destination, we realize that it is not a beer Garden, but a German Oompa Bar called the Beir Garten. We walk in and we can hear a live band playing Abba, followed by YMCA. "This actually looks like a neat place" we begin to say to each other. We take our seats at our table, and order our remarkably expensive libations, and take a moment to take in out environment. I became quite thankful that there were no drugs in China, and that none of us had bothered to smuggle anything in with us, because if there were any drugs added to the evening the whole thing would have become intolerable. The whole thing was far to surreal for drugs, as we began to realize where we were and what we saw on the stage.

"I am in Nanjing China, sitting in a German Oompa bar, Watching a Mariachi band, dressed in lederhosen, Singing Achy Breaky Heart, In Chinese, and the trumpet player just lit his trumpet on FIRE!!!!!" I said to myself while sipping my overpriced vodka. Life doesn't get much more strange than this.

However I was proven wrong, every day, new adventures, and many more crazy stories took place through out the week. However I will leave those tales to the rest of the performers that attended the festival, perhaps Aytahn Can tell us about interplanetary frogger, or the ledgends of Johnny Trouph. What crazy international tales to you have????
