watch the demo on the web site http://www.anthonygatto.com/flash.html and see (hear) the audience go wild.... for a long time....

I still think the act is flat. and garfield is way more entertaining. and on gatto's old web site he used to have a really holyer than though quote about how it's sad that people enjoy so many basic five ball jugglers or something like that... I posted a thread on here about it a couple years back.

at the end of the day I would trade my interactive show in for his flat technical show in a heartbeat.

        Gatto isn't just for jugglers

Gatto's act doesn't just appeal to jugglers. He's worked all the top variete and circus venues in Germany where they care about pleasing an audience. I've seen him live in front of a "normal" audience and they seemed to love him.

I don't think a video does him justice because of the speed with which he does everything. When I saw him in Vegas the show was flawless and the precision makes quite an impact.

A lot of people pass judgment based on a poor resolution youtube video and that's not a reasonable representation of an act - haven't you seen how bad street shows come across on tape? The emotional impact is all screwed up and there's no intimacy.

Gatto was the first juggler to win the Gold Clown at Monte Carlo Circus Festival, other top jugglers had only come away with silver.

One of Gatto's idols is Francis Brunn. Brunn's delivery of tricks, the seemingly effortlessness and speed into and out of tricks inspired many elements now in Gatto's number.

The stuff he does in practise is amazing, and I think he dumbs his act down for the audience. If he were juggling for jugglers he'd be wowing a crowd at IJA with 9 balls.

His performance on stage is top notch and he is a true gifted entertainer.

In Montreal - Cirque de soleil or Ecole de Cirque show?

Im here doing some street...and dying
But wondering what to see - the new Cirque show or the end of year Circus school show. Speaking to some people - they were less than impressed with the tech run of the Cirque show, but then us performers are a hard pleased bunch.
Do I go for the shining glitz of Soleil, or see the new bunches hard sweat and toil show?
You decide - well actually i'll decide but would be interested to know your thoughts...purhaps

I'd go to L'ecole de Cirque's show, you can catch Soleil lots of places and times but L'ecole will only do a couple of shows at this place and this time.

When you're old you can tell your grandkids that you saw "insert some red hot super legend here later" when they were just beginning.

Re dying, is Montreal really that crappy these days?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing Peter.
I can go see Cirque in Vegas maybe, or somewhere else - but the Ecole show is kinda a one off
Re Dying - I think it was alot to do with the Grand Prix, being on a new pitch and a coming together of a full-on sun, not great timings, a lack-lustre crowd, a not great show and a low energy performer.
Plus th fact that my show aint that good.....But yeah the Montreal sucks S#~t man!! (I was told by the locals to say that - very nice locals I must say)

                  not at all true.
                  i think you're friggin hilarious.
everyone's got room to grow, but I say you have more charm in your baby finger than a lot of the door knobs making money out there. And I think that's key.
                  Everyone's got bad days.

                  and that's that.
                  final word.

                      the roots don't show

Cirque said that their last show Corteo was "going back to their roots," and apparently they're saying that about "Kooza." I wouldn't be surprised if their next show (working title: Flappotoshmoog!) will be Cirque "going back to their roots" as well.

Cirque's "roots" are really the shows "La Magie Continue" and "Nouvelle Experience." Both are on DVD. "La Magie" is interesting because it is clearly an amateur circus company turning professional and "Nouvelle" is the full realisation of this. Both shows are filled with an energy and passion that has clearly been eaten up over the years by the giant machine that Cirque has become.

I loved "Corteo," by the way, but then again it was directed by Finzi Pasca from Cirque Eloize so it's more like an Eloize show with a massive budget.

Hey Mason, I'm really interested to hear your take on the Kooza clowns...

                        Traces

                        saw this show in SF:

The 7 Doigts have their "roots" in cirque...

                        etienne

p.s. Not only does Gatto's costume look star trek, but those vulcan eyebrows + goat tee make him look like "evil Spock" from the alternate universe.

                          OMFG

That 7 Doigts video made me very jealous that I don't have amazing acrobatic skills.

Traces is amazing and some of the nicest people out there funny talented and not at all big headed. huge props to them.
                            The Kooza clown question.
Granted I saw that show pre opening so I don't know how much they changed. but from what i saw was this
                            Undifined characters,
Relationship with the audience was weak at best. there was never a point where I laughed or even thought something was clever.
Ever seen guys that try to hard to be funny that was it.
Cheezy gags. (boner and fart jokes) which I am all for, but only if it Peter Griffon or Homer Simpson, and these cats weren't
Timing was not even worth mentioning it just was not there.
But like I said it could have changed for the love of Jesus on a pogostick I hope it changed.
I too liked Corteo much more, Quidam and Corteo.
FireNix did you make it home?
Still waiting for the word on the burn, will let you know

                                Howdi
Just to let you know. I ended up watching L'ecole Cirques show.
MMmmmm - I wasnt at all impressed.
1st 1/2 - some funny moments - lost on me as my French is minimal at best. Ongoing insect character made me laugh at the French jokes I didnt understand.
A great German wheel piece. A very 'OK' club juggling piece and that is all that stood out.
2nd 1/2 - nothing stood out other than its grungy, low budget, low production, low skill, low on idea's, high volume low-fi techno soundtrack.
Shame really - I would have expected more after 3 years from whats supposed to be the high echelon of Circus school graduates.
I guess I should have spent 5 times as much and watched clowns not being funny in what supposed to be the top echelon of Circus.
Either that or I wasted $21 and saved 120!!
Thanks ECO - Im back in the UK after a brief sujourn in Toronto - hooked up with Dan and Brent there on the pitch although didnt do any shows. I think Montreals crowds put me off - although im SURE Toronto's would have been better!!! I also hooked up with Rachael for a trip down to Niagara - which was nice.
No im Jet lagged, loads to do and my crews tickets havent arrived, although the rain has!!! But still looking forward to Glastonbury with excited anticipation.
Hoping BM and those 'other' jobs will come through. Let I know ASAP, as ive got bookings same time, to cancel or not.
                                Again was a pleasure.
I need Raphs email to send through the marketing self help blurb!!!
                                Peas to all
