Jason Garfield is entertaining. Gatto is the most boring juggler I can think of.

(I do respect Gatto a lot though, and I have a poster of him on my wall)

That was an amazing dropless performance, but it was the most un-cirque du soleil-like act I've ever seen. Isn't that the same routine that won him the IJA competition back in the 80s?

Anthony is a totally amazing juggler and his act works on the vegas/nightclub stage, but it looked out of place in that venue.

Also, that song in the background needs more cymbal.

I am in Ithaca hanging out with the skinny German juggler right now and we both just watched that video and came to the same conclusion as Jim.
I think that routine is so technical and tight that it just couldnt be adapted to fit cirques style.
In fact, the more cirque I see, the more I think that traditional circus is going to make a comeback.
They are becoming just what they set out not to be. Predictably cirque!!!

I feel like they have lost their way and are not being creative anymore. I was really disappointed in the performance. I was looking forward to something completly new and original.

Yeah, that was way too 'trad' looking.
                They've had better juggling acts.
Costuming terrible, coreography almost non existant.

                  Cirque du Cliche

                  Yeah,
From what I understand, this new show is supposed to be more of a return to Cirque's roots in the more traditional style of "Old Circus". If you look at most of the acts included in the production, they are all older school type, more traditional circus type acts. In that sense, Anthony's act fits a little better. But I hear what all of you are saying, it is a big step in a different direction for them. It is, by far, the most UnCirque like show yet.
And to answer the inquiry concerning whether Anthony ever street performed... I would say most likely, no. If you look at his history, his father (adoptive father) Nick Gatto taught him juggle at a very young age and soon had him performing on national variety stages, circuses, and TV shows from pretty early on. I don't see a point in his career, when he would have ever really been able to or even cared to do any busking. I have no idea whether Garfield ever did any busking.

I never heard of Garfield performing on the streets, if he had he probably would have ended his career on the streets early by throwing a tantrum and throwing clubs.

                      my feelings...

Although they are both the best technical jugglers around to date. I personally can't stand Garfields attitude (the Hollier than thou) I would love to see a crowd in like Key West chew him up and spit him out!!!

                      Just my opinion though...

While I was out there in the interworld, I stumbled upon Lee Ross's take on cirque.

Thanks for that Kim, that was %150 more interesting and entertaining than the cirque vids and gatto's routine. Lee's costume was way cooler too, i really believed and empathized with him because of the sweaty pits!
