I spoke with Julio(from the usa breakdancers) the other day when this first came out, and he brought to my attention that the other dancers aren't paying attention and conversing with each other at that moment. He says that when he and his guys are dancing, that whoever isn't on the mat, is on "point guard" scanning the audience. Because this possibility is always there.

I personally have had children get away from their parents while I was up on my Rolla Bolla table with my machete, ax, etc. and try to stop my routine to get the parents to gain control of the child.

      I'm shocked too, and pleased...

...that the dancer was able to complete the move despite the interference from the little toe-head.

      That took skills!

I wasn't droped on my head, I was dance kicked

well, if that kid had run the other way, in front of a big adult who wasn't watching his feet and bumped the kid onto the tracks.....

there was a dancer walking the perimeter of the crowd, but the space wasn't big enough to have time to stop some little kid running at full speed.

if it's the performers fault, it's their fault for choosing a space where they wouldn't be able to have control.

if a kid runs out and grabs your tall unicycle by the chain, how much reaction time do you need before you rip the kids hand up in the sprocket, and then fall yourself and break your wrist???? it's happened.

when that kid is an adult and does something dumb, people will ask "did you get dropped on your head as a child?" and the kid will be able to get out that video and say, "no, I was dance kicked".

I'd have the put the impressiveness of the kid's tumbling above that of the breakdancer.

Has anyone seen any follow-up on this? Between getting kicked in the chin, which snapped his (her? I can't tell) head back, the kid landed on top of. . .it's head. Didn't look like the outcome would be good.

I think natural selection is good.

I'm sure that 90% of us have had over enthusiastic toddlers run into our performance spaces at some point.

Even if one of the dancers in the back saw the child run onto the stage, there's a pretty good chance that the young one would have still gotten hit... I don't know that there'd have been enough time to have stopped the child, and the dancer. But who knows...

I think this was a bad *nearly* unavoidable accident given the circumstances. Not that I'm saying it was entirely the fault of the kid/parent.

For a show like that where there probably is a lot of commotion going on with loud music and big audience responses, it might have also been hard to hear if someone was indeed shouting at the dancer in the midst of the move... It's a lot easier to corral a child off of the stage if you're the only one up there I find.

              Just some ramblings.

                mmm

does anyone know if this is actually a recent event or is it just a piece of YouTube footage a bored journalist found that might have happened ages ago?

                  fault?

Its a funny word 'blame', perhaps its no-ones fault, just unfortunate circumstances?
We are very quick to blame something, especially if its 'bad'
"you made me crash my car by telling me a bad joke"
We can't live in a world where everything is 'safe', (as seems to be the way these days) it would be so boring....In the UK our 'risk assessment' procedure for shows is getting daft.
You can be sure that there won't be any more 'breaking' in that environment again, that one incident will become a catalyst for nanny state safety...(i'm not downplaying the seriousness of the incident though)
Although it was obviously distressing, accidents happen. And according to the people who filmed it then posted it up on Youtube they deemed it correct to repeat the kick in slow motion just so that the more morbid amongst us could see how dramatic that child's tumble was.
I guess what will happen is they will all learn from it. The mother will hold onto her child (it could have been a car), the dancers will have more crowd control and the venue (Wherever it is) will ban all live performance forever. Ah well, 2 out of 3 aint bad.

                    I agree

I agree Em. This, to me, opened my eyes to the very real possibilities that face all of on a daily basis.

I pray that the child is alright and I pray the dancer is alright as well.

I think everyone should take responsibility and no blame should be placed by anyone on the outside. They should deal with the fact that the world isn't perfect and is far from safe no matter what you do.

Just let life happen. It was a funny accident.
