    springtime

springtime has finally reared its head here in Iceland.
    sticks are turning into trees
you dont bruise your head when you fall on the grass
down to three layers of clothing
    birds are singing
drunks are starting to congregate on the city bench
and this street performer went out and shook off cobwebs.
    It feels good!!

I did the same thing last weekend and it was my best first show back ever.
I should have been out earlier because we never realy had winter this year but I had a baby as an excuse.
You sent me a pm lee but my inbox was full, try again.

      Hell yes

Montreal is still expecting snow today but hopefully it is the last of it. Which is good cause I play to much virtual bowling.
Lee are you there all summer> I have always wanted to check that place out. Let me know how it is

I went thru the pain and heartache of an Icelandic summer last year, this year I am taking advantage of its spectacularly central location to the US and Europe and going somewhere else!!!
Still, UCO, worth a visit, I'm in and out all summer so there is always a chance I might be here. And with or without yours truly it is a very strange place.

And as a springtime update ...... It has just started snowing again. But a positive note would be the drops of rain that exist between the snow flakes......

            ahhhhh springtime

Springtime in Florida brings thousands of tourists, beautiful weather. 3-5 shows a day. Not bragging, this is a hint.

Our beach is under quite a bit of construction, but when it's done, this will be the premier place to perform!!!!! A pedestrian mall, outdoor cafes, high-end shopping....And ALL YEAR AROUND.

My only days off are rain days.

                burning down the house

and today, with the first day of summer (a public holiday) officially being tomorrow in sunny Reykjavik.....

my fucking pitch just burnt down!!!

not the pitch itself, but the three buildings directly adjacent to it are currently being consumed by ravenous flames even as my fingers nimbly dance over the keyboard.

I'm certainly glad I am going somewhere else as the obvious finale to this great spectacle will be the soothing sounds of construction all summer as they race to redevelop before the winter kicks back in.

At least they cant blame it on me....

and this photo looks like it was taken at about 2.30pm
its 5.30 now and its still going
the fire is absolutely kicking the firemens asses
I was watching for a while and couldnt help think of Dads Army.
I swear that 50 years ago before Icelanders had electricity and some were still living in caves this fire would have been put out by 3pm with with a bucket chain.
When I got too cold to watch anymore and sought out the reassuring comfort of a spliff, the fire had consumed the front half of the building as well....

on the positive side, it generated the biggest crowd I have ever seen here.

not quite sure how they managed it
but in 4 and a half hours of fighting a fire they managed to let a building in the middle of Reykjavik, one of the oldest mind you, burn totally to the ground. This they managed with applomb, given the excellent access that allowed them to encircle the buildings with trucks, the modern equipment, ample man power and the abundant water supply.

The firefighters will be happy with the training excercise, the opportunity to find out how their state of the art equipment actually worked can only be seen as a valuable learning experience.

The sight of 30 firefighters crammed into a bus eating freshly ordered pizza while a fire raged behind them will forever inspire me as well as provide excellent advertising for the thoughtful pizza company as the picture graces the front pages tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I'm gonna have a bit to say when the smoke clears. The crowds of gawkers in the coming weeks will provide plenty of listeners. Something tells me its gonna be fenced off for a wee while though..

                            the final picture

Hundreds of people ventured out on the public holiday yesterday to check the wreckage ( its big news in a little place like this )
even a food truck took advantage of the situation.
This photo was on the front page of todays paper .

                            I like it!

Nice one Lee. I bet you have local celebrity status there.
Still looks pretty cold judging by the clothing.
