    Ah, hello? How bout some chyx?

    You bunch of penis-centrics. How about Gracie Allen in just about any of George & Gracie shows, Lucille Ball in the Vitameatavegimin sketch, Lucy and Ethel in the chocolate factory, Carol Burnett in the Gone with the Wind episode, or Madeline Kahn in just about anything...

      More guy humor

      Don't forget about the campfire scene in Blazing Saddles. Kids should love that one, It's got rythmn, bodily functions and food.

        Now we're cookin' with gas...or was that Cookie's beans?

        Adore Victor B, grew up with him early because of Sesame Street (or Electric Company) when he did the spoken punctuation...for the record, I dig Spike too and they're both in the keeper pile.

        Lucy and the chocolates, fer sure, natch. The Carol/Scarlett scene is only properly funny to those what've seen that which is being referenced. Some few kids might've seen it, and it's a great exaple of loving parody, just like her Norma Desmond (though I'd wager even fewer of my students will have seen Sunset Blvd).

        Prolly should have listed the approx age level of the target brain...grades 6 to 10, typically.

          Oh, snapple, Vitameatavegamin, heartily seconded. After the penis-centric comment, I tried to come up with some good, classic Vag humorists, but Lynne already hit all the ones that aren't a bit too dark. I think Judy Tenuta is one of the most gifted comedians out there, but would probably give children nightmares, on second thought, I loved her when I was a kid, but I grew up on Pryor and Carlin too...

          The Smothers Brothers, the chicken bit is beautiful.

          And I'm going to mention the Spike Jones Television show again for good measure.

              Wasn't it Aristotle who said: "The douche bags will always be with us."

                  Jackie Gleason said, "The douche bags will always be with us"?

                  And why is is worse to call some one a "douche bag" (a hot water bottle) than it is to call them a "scum bag" (a used condom)?

                    I like the "mole" scene in Austin Powers 2, or is contemporary stuff out?

                    For modern lady comics, give me Wendy Liebman. But not for kids.

                        More classic chyx

                        Mary Tyler Moore, especially in the episode with the clown's funeral (though that is really a testament to the whole cast) and one of TV's early taglines with "Oohhh, Rob" and her work in Dick Van Dyke;

                        Barbra Streisand - yes, it's true - in the Owl and the Pussycat (maybe some covered eyes stuff here for kids) and What's Up Doc;

                        Goldie Hawn in Laugh In;

                        Ruth Buzzie in Laugh In;

                        (compare and contrast and have a 500 word essay on my desk by the end of the day)

                        And Lily Tomlin in, well, about as many things as Madeline Kahn ...

                          Madeline Kahn was such a delight!
                          Already have Lily's phone-operator bit (Mr. Veedle...one ringy dingy) on the list.

                          If it's still at the record store when next I go, I'm picking up an album called Wet Toe in a Hot Socket, by Phyllis Diller, a groundbreaking gal in her own right.

                          A little Rita Rudner for her capping technique.

                          Murder by Death provides a plethora of chippies doing great comedy, but there I run into the referentiality problem again, as the kiddies dunno what's being parodied. Still, Buzzi's maid doesn't need any explanation to be funny. Got some great Gracie Allen bits...and let's not fergit Elaine May.

                          Keep those cards and letters coming kids!

                            I second Rita Rudner and Lily Tomlin. yes yes yes.

                            And I raise you a Gilda Radner.
                            I'm not sure if she's been mentioned already.
                            ...and I'm too lazy to look.

                            I was raised on Carol Burnett -- the old stuff.
                            I also have a crush on Red Skelton. I don't care if he is dead.

                            Sid Caesar.

                            Mike Meyers.

                            Looney Toons -- ONLY the Chuck Jones episodes. His comic timing made the cartoons funny when they otherwise might not have been.
                            I think I should teach that class -- Juck Jones Timing, 101. ...I think he created the "smear" to aid his timing and reduce his work. He nearly got fired over it. If anybody can tell me what that is, you get an A. If anybody even cares, you get a B+.

                              Can I get an A- for finding a reference to "smear" but not actually reading it?

                                I cannot give you an A-, but I can offer you an "A mayonnaise". It sounds almost identical, but it's tangier. Just try to keep it refrigerated. Don't set it in the sun.

                                Smears are ver funny.
                                You'll laugh and you won't know why... Unless you can see by individual frames. Which I am VERY proud to say I can. VERY proud.

                                But back on topic now. Sorry.
