    Concert movies

In the spirit of the previous "movies" thread, I'd like to hear about your favorite concert movies... commercially produced films of bands or performer's live shows.

I just bought "Big Time" - Tom Waits in LA & SF - and I'm diggin' it.

I also enjoy "Jimi Hendrix Live at Monterey" and Eric Bogosian's "Sex Drugs Rock n Roll".

These 3 videos are no longer produced, but you can often find them on ebay.

Hey Paul. I can't wait to see Andre' Benjamin playing Jimi Hendrix. That is going to be smooth! Speaking of concert movies and Outkast... Idlewilde was actually VERY good. Does that count?

      One more for the road.

I have no idea who Andre Benjamin is, and I don't envy anyone making a movie about Jimi Hendrix.

Another great concert flick that I saw many many years ago was "Mad Dogs & Englishmen" starring Joe Cocker, Leon Russell and more musicians, roadies, groupies and lunatics than you can count.

"What would you do if I sang out of tune?
Would you stand up and walk out on me..."

Aside from Scorceses' love affair with Robbie Robertson, "The Last Waltz" is a good one. It captured some great performances. Van the Man doing Caravan is classic.

I'm a big fan of Talking Heads "Stop Making Sense." The commentary from David Byrne is very interesting and well worth listening to.

I second that. "Stop Making Sense" changed my view of musical presentation. Long live David Byrne!

He's the weird guy in the group OUTKAST. Pretty talented guy. My wife just made me watch Xanadu this week...

(i did some work on the ads for the show)

...I don't know why I'm sounding so cynical.

Maybe because the character that is voiced by him and looks like him, and is pretty much him, is -in the show - "The Biggest Super Star in the WORLD!"

The show's got GREAT music though.
Well, maybe I WILL just keep telling myself that.
