    terror, terror, terror...

just had a fun day at the airport and all I can say is BULLSHIT.

I don't believe a fucking word that this government screams (yes I can provide facts, but I'm too tired right now). I have to fly again tomorrow. Ahhh shit. I hate this administration. I really do.

        its just gonna get harder

guys, the state of the world at the moment is freaking me out a bit. I fear that the increased security on airplanes and limited hand luggage will stop alot of us in the future from reaching our assignments in foreign cities or at least make us change the way that we assess the viability of the gigs we take.
Im certain,, alot of us here arnt completely honest with immigration when we arrive as to the purpose of our stay in our host country. I fear that people are going to look a little harder at our cover stories and discover that they are normally quite thin.
It gives me the shits that while festivals in countries beg us to come and perform very few are willing to cough up the time and energy and money to make it legal for us to do so. It pisses me off that anti terror laws erode our rights and allow governments to feed us stories and hold back verification of said facts in the interest of national security.
It drives me bananas that I work in an industry that consistantly falls between the cracks of the established laws of lands and that the country of my parents birth is playing such a big factor in my life decisions.
We need aliens, then I stop being an Australian and just become an Earthling.
sorry. I have to leave Iceland on Wednesday, my passport just got blackmarked for the first time in almost 10 years of constant international travelling when 3 months ago I passed thru the fascist immigration centre of the United Kingdom ( in transit only incidentally ). Im freaking for the future of my business and my way of life.
I suppose I should just be happy that I have had 10 kick ass years, will the guys that follow be able to say the same thing??
Wednesday I land in Amsterdam with a compromised passport because my visa has expired here. Will they put me on the first flight to Australia??? Fuck it just makes you want to go and get drunk

          and is it just me...

and is it just me or is all of this terror shit just playing into the hands of the people in this world who make money off other people. Who herd us and farm us and make us buy their crap.
Aren't the people in control of governments also linked financially to big business. If the governments can control the people they can serve their own financial and power interests more effectively.

          Is Terror a marketing strategy???

This western world terror shit is just playing on our fears of losing our big TV's. I cant wait to go back to Africa and find me some poor Islamic terrorists to entertain. They are only worried about feeding themselves not about lack of choice of food.

And now my passport problems just magnified because no doubt some anti terror agency is picking up on this thread and Ive just been marked as subversive.

          Goddammit!!

Lose your passport and then get a new one.

oh god, could it be that simple. Do you think the fact that Australia has no representation in Icland would be a hindrince or a bonus.

gee this threatens to take the thread way off line

I suggest you DON'T lose your passport and apply for a new one.

It may double flag you as someone who had a flagged passport, and is now suspected of selling passports.

I lost a passport under semi-suspicious circumstances once and it was nothing but a bother for a number of years. The dept. of foreign affairs said it was because my record had been flagged as a potential security risk (ie. they figured I'd sold my last passport). I think my record is finally cleared up, as I haven't had any trouble in a while. Nonetheless, I can't imagine it would help your situation much.

What earned you the blackmark? Your issue may only be with British Immigration and nothing to to with any other country or agency, eg a work permit issue.
Losing your passport is not the best way to deal with replacement. A dry-cleaner, your washing machine or a drunken friend reading your passport near a campfire can adequately cause you to need another. You would have to do this in writing, sending the damaged one from Iceland, which may strand you(safely?) there until it is sorted. They will not think you sold it.

I too have a good friend who has had several dubious adventures that involve allegations and actual charges of spying in a war zone, turning up inexplicably in the wrong country, smuggling, drug offences, deportation from Britain and more. It has not affected things much as he has travelled to and through Heathrow many times since, the latest only 4 weeks ago. Even work permits have not proved a problem.
Again, what did you do to piss them off?

                      A) What an understatement. The whole point of government is to protect the haves from the have nots...our current Pres is doing everything his mega-rich friends want him to do.....

                      B) Yes, and apparently quite effective...

Peter you are not a subversive...

... you are overtly opposed to their bullshit, but you are straight up about it. That is not subversion, that is good honest overt opposition.

.. and I'll drink to that...

This thread would seriously benefit from a title change and being moved to "Legal, financial etc issues" where it may enjoy a little more privacy by keeping it amongst members only.

Does anyone mind if we move it?

I am not very intimidated by my own past and can hear my own cannonball coming. My bet is it will miss again but not everyone is as obliviously indifferent to the shrapnel as I am.

Renaming the thread something like "Serious Travel Issues" might also be more discreet.

PS, Cheers Jester, I have no idea of what you are implying and I deny everything but I'll 'ave a 'alf any time.
