    Why we do it.

In the movie "Heat" there is a great scene with Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro in a coffee shop. Pacino is a cop, DeNiro is a bank robber, and they discuss their mutual commitment to their work.

Pacino says, "I don't know how to do anything else. I don't much want to, either."

DeNiro says, "I do what I do best, you do what you do best. I am never going back."

I always watch this scene to remind myself why I'm doing what I do.

I do what I do because I made a choice to do it... including the mistakes.

      Two Reasons

I stand on the stage, entertain people and make them FEEL GOOD.
I stand on the stage, get laughs and applause and that makes me FEEL GOOD

I do it because I can.

There are many things I wish I could do but can't.

So I do what I can.

I do this so I can say that I pass air for a living and turn it into art.

I do it because for the first time in my 60+ years I know that I am a success. The audience tells me that every show.

Before, as an engineer, I would go to work and design things, they worked. Big deal. Now I finish a show, the audience applauds and shouts then they put money in my hat. Hell I make more money now for less time than I did as an engineer.
