The Premiere
Well, my teeny weeny cartoon will debus (sp?) on the nfb website, early summer, they tell me. www.nfb.ca (click on "Animation" and then on "Hothouse". I will be part of "Hothouse 3"). If you watch the "Inside the Hothouse" segments, you can see my producer, Michael, and how he speaks with his hands as if he's kneeding dough. I often wonder how tired his arms must get from talking.
For the next two years this 1 min., 45 sec., 10 fr. film will do the animation/film festival circuit, but it's up to the festivals whether it gets in to any or not. But NFB provides every opportunity. ...so I have no excuses if I suck. (in the past it's always been like, "well, i only applied to 2 festivals, so it's no big deal that I got rejected." but now... if they send it to 50 fests and I still get rejected... ugh.)
Normal NFB films (or as we hothousers have been referring to them, "real" films) go up for sale on the site and at NFB "mediateques" around the globe. But ours don't. Hothouse is sort of a first-film, mentorship program. ...I don't think they expect much from us, so they don't put energy into sales. But if we get all famous AFTER hothouse, they can say that it was due to their mentorship. ...and honestly, it might be. It's a great place to be.
So, I will definately be blatantly hyping the film when it gets up on the site. I've been done for a couple weeks and have only sound mixing and final edit to do. So, the wait will feel like an eternity. I'm spending my time wrapping up the performers docu proposal now. ...well, not RIGHT now. RIGHT now I'm playing hooky because I'm too cool for school.
