    "The Street Singer" (PBS 1984)
"Street Art," was an episode of an educational film series from America! created by Louis Schwartzberg of Black Light Films in 1999.
"Street Music" documentary film which focuses on NY street and subway artists by JD Marlow in 2003.

To some, the most significant film on street performing was the 1940 Mayflower Pictures "Sidewalks of London."

...and of course, all the videos at Busker Central

        That Stilt Guy

I've recently moved to Toronto to be closer to this whole industry I'm in, but this weekend came back to my old place in Hamilton to hang out with the old roommates. I've been pretty consumed with the docu I'm trying to write, and have talked about the process and shown some of my hopeful subjects to friends and family... I really only have "civilian" friends. No real street performers (apart from an act a friend and I put together, which just consists of us log-rolling down the street during festivals --any opporunity we can get to roll down a normally busy street is pretty fun. ...people throw money. ...but likely just to make us stop.)
Anyway, I came back here to be welcomed by the newest housemate. She's 19, and sweet, and innocent, and o-so plyable. She also makes the best audience I've ever known. She laughs a LOT.
I got in the house and had her tell me how, since the I last came, she's been having nightmares. Her nightmares are about "That stilt guy who scares people". hee hee heeee. aaaawesome. She dreamt that he was really 12 feet tall, the makeup was his real face, and that he was an insane criminal.
I assured her that his name was Martin and he likes to post funny links on an internet forum. ...that doesn't sound so scary now, does it?
For her sake, I'm hoping she doesn't have more nightmares, although I look forward to hearing about them, if she does.
It was an overly sweet moment.
...and honestly, I think I may be more frightened of the internet Martin than of the 12 foot mime who jumps out from corners to scare nuns and old ladies.

I look forward to where this docu goes.
Well, maybe I WILL just keep telling myself that.

doc-sation ...that didn't sound anything like "sensation". ...or "documentary".

What kind of insights, issues, topics would you like to see in a documentary about performance? (There's a tendency to think only in terms of street. Don't. Think broad -- live entertainment performance of all kinds. Vaudeville, burlesque, circus... name it.) Any behind-the-scenes aspects? The lifestyle? Things you think an audience would want to know, but aren't commonly addressed?

I just want to feel out what you all want to see/say.

Very broad pile of questions, I realize.

Forgive me if my diction is jumbly.... i'm so tired it hurts. ....ow.
Well, maybe I WILL just keep telling myself that.

There was a documentary called "All the fun of the fair." which featured two really brilliant jesters. One was called jonathan and he was a jester and the other was called jamie.

              They were really cool

ANOTHER Jonathan and Jamie?? What are the ODDS?!

...at LEAST 2 to 7, or something.

--> where can I find it?

I've gotten a lot of titles from people so far, but so far I haven't been able to find a copy of anything to watch.

(Sorry I forgot to mention jesters in my "think broad" speech.)
Well, maybe I WILL just keep telling myself that.

                    shoddy website??

You may or may not like the site, but the video is pretty good. It gives you a view of the show and behind the scenes. I ordered it from the site and got it delevered to me no problem.

I do recommend ordering this one.

I emailed Shatlow if his was still available but didn't receive a reply.

I've got a DVD burner and will be freely distributing my works next year for those lucky enuf to be Boulder. I may make it available for free on one site of mine. They just pay the postage.

I'll split 'The Straniero' with you if you wish...no guarantees on any of this, though.

                        Great sig, Magrat2005

I don't think I'd categorize that as "documentary". I'd call it an advertisement.
All I've seen so far is home video cam-quarters and a showcase of self-promotion. That's not what I'm after.
I dunno. Call me an art snob.
Maybe I'm just tired and cranky.

And now I leave for Montreal to be mentored by older art snobs, in the age old art of art-snobbery.
