In Dublin for November... What to do? Who's around?

Hello everyone, I'm going to be in Dublin for the entire month of November. I'm not bringing props... it's a holiday.

I've never been to Ireland so I'd love suggestions of things to see and do. I'll probably have a car a bit of the time and I hope to travel and see a good part of the country. I'll also probably hop over to visit London (and the surrounding area) at some point, but I don't have any definite plans or dates as of yet.

So is anyone going to be around and want to hang out?

    Thanks!
    Jim

Western Ireland is GORGEOUS. Galway is a fantastic city & I really enjoyed mountain biking & camping in the hills of Sligo... although it might be a bit too cold in November.

If you get over to Wales, I had great times in Cardiff, Tenby, Aberystwyth & Camarthen.

Hey. If you make it to Rome....

I can see the logic in Ettienes post, after all Wales is only an 13 hour swim from Dublin......

See Dublin. don't rush around looking at everywhere else.

See the wonderful Republic of Ireland.

            Dublin Ireland marathon

            HIGH! JIM!

Get there a little early and take this wonderful tour of Dublin!

That is what I did in '99 and '01 - on stilts!

The route circles Dublin and you get to experience up close quite a variety of neighborhoods. In '99 we were treated to
the sight of an early morning horse drawn
delivery wagon. The sight of a quart or two of milk, a half dozen or a dozen eggs and a pound of butter left at the door step of small cafes was quite an eyeopener to this walmart shopper! Also note the chimmneys, one to a room, with stacks of compressed peat for sale out side of the tiny neighborhood stores. Tiny yards, immaculatly groomed. Too small for a lawn mower, they must use sissors to trim the grass! ;>)

By the way, if you see that kid, then about 9 years old, who tried to pull my stilt pants down at the '99 marathon, tell him I said hello!

              Well Jester,

There's always the "We hate the English" tour-- Start in Eire, then head to Wales (the further north = more hate) then up to Scotland and end with a bang at Northern Ireland.

Or you could do the "we kicked your butts so shut the hell up tour" and while in these countries visit all the towns & castles that Edward I and others built to keep those unruly Celts & Galls in line (I did this in Wales-- it was great fun).

Just been reading up on the Battle of Trafalgar (it's the anniversary) and what a brilliant and heroic commander Nelson was...

                  Hi Ettiene.

The Welsh the Celts, the Scots, the Picts, the Feinians, They All hate us.

So historicly, how do we keep em in control?

Well everynow and then we have a little war with the french and they are all very quick to sign up alongside us.....

                  Why is that?

When I was travelling in 2000 in the South of France a lot of French people made their dislike of the English very apparent. I really don't think that we have any part of England where mainstream society would find that behaviour acceptable.

I was very offended. I want' people do dislike me for who I am, not for which country I was born into.

I just want to say that I am very interested in Napoleon as well as Nelson and although my pacifist instincts won't let me admire them, in terms of military accomplishment they were both brilliant men.

Actually... I remember seeing on ITV that the British were rated Europe's Worst Tourists (you beat the Germans again!).

As far as admiration of brutality... yeah, I know what you mean. I admire, however that when Robspierre (post Revolution France Reign of Terror guy who sent 40,000+ to the guillotine) was finally guillotined himself, they did it face UP.

                      My thread has been hijacked.

Let's talk about things to do in Ireland!

Also, I'm still hoping to hear from anyone who's in the area (Or any part of the UK) that might want to hang out at some point in November.

I want to do some sightseeing, but I'd also love to meet some acts over there because I've never been to that part of Europe.

                      Thanks,
                      Jim

theres a great pub on suffolk street called thing mote in dublin... i worked there a while... cool bartenders cool music cool crowd... theres a good fight once in a while too. but thats in all the pubs i think... if you go say hi to pete, peter, and john for me...
go to galway for sure... if you want to go back in time a century go to the aryn(spelling) islands....
a good rule of thumb in eire is this i think... every time its starts raining find shelter in the nearest pub... thats the best way to see it i think...
                        have loads of fun

                              circus in Dublin

There should be an Irish circus in Dublin about now. Look for the posters in the shop windows. There is a bicycle rental place near downtown. Everything is in walking distance if you have long legs, but a bike would be nice. ;>)
