    Thieves

    God damn people.

You'd expect a common level of respect and mutual well-wishing between humanity, ideally, but no. Nothing like that exists on this planet.

For the 3rd time this year, my car has been broken into and vandalized. Nothing stolen, just people fucking around and smashing shit up. I hate you, whoever you are, and I hope you feel as empty and broken as the interior of my automobile.

hmmm, are you suggesting that it's one of your fellow posters here that did the deed, otherwise why say that here?
I think you should be paranoid, there are people on these boards who are definately out to get you.
Count yourself lucky though, I had my car broken into this season, and had my digital camera and my wifes silver jewelry stolen. Thankfully they didn't take my sound system and mike, or the 40 cans of coconut milk I had stashed in the back.

Do you drive a Honda? I hear that those are the best cars to break into.

            Daniel,

the tao te ching says, as soon as people stop amassing more than they need ,beggars and thieves will disappear.

thats what Lao Tsu says, i say, let them take the car and the stuff, cos you can get more, but don't let them take your humanity or your faith in it. Thats irreplaceable ,once you've lost that it doesn't come back.

I live in a natioanl park and I leave my house and car doors unlocked, I got my mountainboard stolen from the door step last year , yes I was gutted but if they hadn't have nicked it I wouldn't have got my wheelman( motorised dirt surfer) to cheer me up.( or should I say my spouse would never allowed such a purchase)
Its interesting when my friends visit, they all live in big cities, so when they visit they insist I lock my doors, I tell them they aren't in Hackney now, but there not assured so as a host I want people to be at ease so I lock the doors and it feels weird and un natural to me.

Now apart from the philisophical protection , it is prudent to be security concious in certain areas.
I work in Manchester where I grew up and I have lived in Paris Amsterdam and Barcelona, so I have picked up a few good techniques to avoid that devastaing raped feel one gets from having stuff stolen.
            Heres what I do,
            1) Always park next to a car that is easier to break into than yours.(Its handy to know a car thief or a police man for this knowledge)
            2) Ask your self , if I had to break into my car here, would it draw attention, if the answer is no, choose somewhere else.

and to finish, heres a true story,
my partner Toni was doing a show on the ramblas in barcelona years ago, her van which she was living in was parked right next to the pitch, in the middle of the show someone ran in and asked her if that was her van , as they had just seen someone breaking into it, she threw her props down, ran over and dragged this junky thief out of her home and into the street by his feet, and proceeded to kick 7 bells of shit out of him with her size 5 combat boots to the cheers of her audience. Thats my girl.

                      blah, blah, blah.

There are only three true statements-
and the awful truth is, envelope please...

                      karma is rarely 'instant'.

Also, while this may not be a pure truth, I yeild the floor to what Senator Alakazam had to say on the topic.

                      Now THAT'S fucking funny !

al, hey man, so i'm curious, do you worry much about getting stuff nicked the more you acquire, one of my techniques is to park my car next to a better car, i guess thats a lot harder for you than me. do you worry about your stuff,

                          Car breakins

                          Hey, Daniel ---

Several years ago I was doing a Christmas Eve show at the Audobon Hotel on the seedy end of St. Charles Ave. in New Orleans. I was parked on the street just down from the venue.

I hadn't started my set yet when I went outside to get something I had left. The van had been broken into, anything saleable had been taken and, in return, the thief left his black jeans jacket with crack pipe stuffed in a pocket.

I ditched the crack pipe and still use the jacket. What goes around comes around. It was a cold night and once his high levelled off I'll bet he spent a shiverful night!

It convinced me to invest in a car burgler alarm. You and I know a burgler alarm going off in a city is not likely to attract much attention. But maybe that little flashing red light on the dash is enough to make the crooks think it will be less of a hassle if they target unprotected cars.

Hey, I've got an idea: let's market a flashing red light that would attach to the dash board with adhesive. It surlely would be cheaper and PROBABLY just as effective!

Use a metradome with a light . That is what I have been using in the city. I was thinking about hooking the locks to the battery so when the fuckers open the door, .............
This is such a harsh thread. I out
