    Throwing Knives for the Neighborhood

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to deaden the sound of throwing knives thwacking clumsily against a large wooden target. I live in a college town, and while they tolerate my fire breathing, the noise from the knives is starting to wear thin the whole covet thy neighbor deal.

I've got 4 (2x12x4) boards connected with some (2x4)'s then stuck to the ground. Perhaps some pillows on the back? Something cheaper? Not sucking at throwing won't be an option for a few weeks I'd imagine so let's nix that suggestion right now...

I'm guessing you could stack cardboard together and stand up the stack so that the edges face you. Then, throw into the edges (instead of wood).

Metal on wood is going to be noisy. maybe you could lay carpet over the wood so that your misses aren't so loud.
