earth quake in japan and in indonesha

I expect most people might have heard, but if not then theres been a report of a earthquake in Japan, about 7 on the richter scale scale, at least 400 have been injured and one woman died from a collapsing wall.

This from the BBC news site:

A major quake in the Indian Ocean has hit the coast of the Indonesian tsunami-hit island of Sumatra, triggering alerts across the region.

It struck just before midnight local time, with an estimated magnitude of 8.2, and caused widespread panic.

The epicentre was located at about 200 km (125 miles) off the mainland.

US monitors warned of a "widely destructive tsunami" and the quake was felt as far away as Malaysia

MOTHER EARTH IS PISSED AT US...

i've heard reports here (SF, CA) that they are now evacuating people to higher ground because of a threat of another tsunami.

they've upped the rating to 8.5 - it took place about 125 mi off the coast of sumatra. the news is now saying that it is an aftershock of december's 9.2 quake which triggered the tsunami the day after xmas.

i have friends who are traveling in thailand on holiday right now - please give a quick thought for their safe return and the safety of all the people in affected areas.

    peace,
    kate
