Jesus Ivan, I haven't even heard of most of those shows!

Dan- I never got into Enterprise. I watched season 1 (downloaded it all) and Archer just nauseated me. He's like George Bush meets Captain Kirk. The worst of both worlds. Voyager-- well I never saw it when it was on TV, so I bought season one on DVD and it was so bad I immediately sold it on ebay. I hear it got better after tits, I mean Seven of Nine, joined the cast, but Voyager seems like TNG for Dummies featuring Judge Judy as the captain. Janeway is a sanctimonious bitch. TNG - Classic, but DS9 is just the best Trek. Dan, I'm gonna come up to Winnepeg with all seven seasons of DS9 on DVD and convert you.

(Ivan-- Picard & the Cardassian is from season 6 - chain of command, part I & II. yes I own all seven seasons on DVD. You're right about Geordi... I think he was the most under appreciated character, and Levar Burton is absolutely fantastic every time. My personal favourite character is Quark (DS9.)

Shout outs to Real Time, six feet under, daily show, South Park (still funny) Chappelle & V. Graham Norton.

I actually got REALLY hooked to Project Runway on Bravo. I was so happy when Jay won.

      I love the tele-

Evan brought up one of the greatest things to come to television for us couch potatos: On demand! It's been fantastic. I've been able to watch all of the Sopranos (which answered a lot of questions for me) and Curb Your Enthusiam-s. Genious, cable people- I owe you one.

However, those of you that have on demand- have you noticed some of the strange things they've been putting on there? For instance- I ran across "Dating On Demand"- which has to be the worst things ever. I didn't know there was a lower level than phone personals. Another strange thing is "Guitar Lessons On Demand." This is actually a pretty cool thing- from basics to how to play the blues to how to play different pop songs (complete with a drum machine and karaoke-like singer at the end).

Surprisingly though, even with this magical invention- there's hardly anything to watch on tv.

Dating on Demand has got to be the funniest thing those people offer, I've watched every one of those interviews, and thay were 10 times more entertaining than half the crap people have mentioned in this thread.

Many of the shows you guys are talking about are shown in Aust. and although they are popular, I don't actually know any people who watch them.
The hot shows here are "Kath and Kim" (just starting to make a mark in UK), Pizza (any of several versions that are unlikely to ever be screened free-to-air anywhere else except Holland) and "Media Watch".

The last is very special here but totally local to Australia and is essential viewing for any-one who actually thinks. It's a show that I doubt would get any air-time in the States.

Some of the Docos we get from Europe that are also unknown to US audiences are mind-boggling. We even get re-runs of "That's Our Bush", which has virtually disappeared from the US media.

Of course, I love the classics of MASH, Simpsons, Dr Who and anything with John Cleese, but the thread is about 2005.

At great risk of ridicule, I confess to an addiction to watching my football team play but I do have a very good excuse.

            Etienne-

I'd be more than happy to get into DS9. It sounds like B5, and I'll watch DS9 if you watch all 5 seasons (plus movies) of B5. It'll be good.

Etienne - Janeway was a bitch, a bloody good one, I couldnt stand Seven of Nine, I think after she joined it was bout her, they should have kept her fully borg, I liked her then.

a few other things I watch - South Park, Friends, and a some chat shows: Trisha, Jerry, SJR, The Sharon Osboure Show, Graham Norton

                reruns

Here in Croatia they're rerunning Columbo every sunday morning.
This has got to be one of the best detective shows ever made. Peter Falk is perfect as the scruffy cop that always gets his man. I recomend that you search for it if you haven't seen it already.
I just noticed that they've remaid Kojak(another of my old favorites), strangely though he has developed a very dark tan ?
Still got the lolly pop though.

                    Yeah that was me

Actually it wasn't but that's just my standard response when someone asks those kinda questions.
I do remember Steve Scott though. Rock n roll puppets if I have it right, very good man. What ever happened to him?
I worked Canberra once in the mall, not very good at the time. However the Hall(it's a place not a building) market just on the outskirts was pretty good.
I started out in Brisbane and then spent most of my time in Fremantle w.a. before moving here a year ago.
                    Do you like Columbo?

columbo and rockford files are running in the morning ....
                      some excelent mystery shows...

i never really liked kojak , dunno why...

croatian t.v. eh? thats interesting gav...

                      it's kinda funny

i mentioned the law and order shows earlier in the thread .. and i think that some of the reasons i like it are the way they draw off some really good older cop shows....

                      like dragnet, columbo, rockford files...

i think that when people say there is no good t.v. they are just too busy to take the time to watch .... just like the people who say cartoons are for kids...

there is a lot of crap though.... i can not seem to enjoy the daytime talk shows or audience shows .. like maury, jerry, montel.. etc... my friend likes to watch them and the court shows..... maybe i like my drama to be performed by actors .. if i wanted real life drama .. i'd probably leave the house more..

a note about ds9 and B5... both came out the same fall season...
both took place on a space station, both had neat cameos...

                        hi ivan

Rockford Files used to be one of my favs also. Haven't seen it in years though.
On a totally unrelated subject, Croatia rules, because I just sent a 5yr old to the store for butter, and she also came back with a beer for me !!

                          B5/DS9 Clarification

Thank you Ivan, for bringing out the curious similarities in release that B5 and DS9 had, but aside from the story based differences, (B5 housing 250,000 people, DS9 housing 300) there's something that I wanted to clarify for all who might give half a shiz.

Babylon 5 had already been proposed to Paramount in 1989. Deep Space 9 was CREATED two years later, although they both premiered in the same season.

                          </nerd glasses>

                          That is all.

                              gavin!

i didn't realise that you were gavin, umm leopard man...
                              hows ya?

                              back on topic...

as far a sci fi t.v. goes i made sure to watch all of babylon 5 not so much with any star trek...

the only box set of t.v. i own is jerimiah season 1 ... because of strazynski.. it could have been great...

of all the shows i listed .. i think Huff and Dead like me are the ones i would really encourage people to watch...

characters .. it's about the characters...
on huff .. theres russle and teddy ...
on dead like me... it's rube and mason...

all of them supporting characters but they make it worth it..

ensemble shows like the law and orders and the csi-es are good too..

but i think battle star galactica will be the break out hit of 2005 for sci fi geeks ...

i can't wait for new family guy , or the american dad show ( i watched the one episode and giggled alot)

oh and no one mentioned Numb3rs ... damn fine t.v.

i like the new cartoons the batman and teen titans .. they spin the characters in a good way.. it's by far the bestest adaptation of the caped crusader

i tried kath and kim.. didn't like it... maybe it's hit or miss like trailer park boys..

                              one thing to think about...

one of the things people will look back at when they look back at our time in history is most likely to be t.v. and the way it represents our time and thoughts and attitudes ( when i think of the 50 's i think of leave it to beaver and happy days and my three sons... ) ....

                              wonder what they'll think?
