    Great Reads (not so funny)

One of my all time favorite books is Patrick Suskind's "Perfume"
A truly chilling horror story. Definitely not for wimps.

A surpisingly great recent read was Mark Kurlansky's "SALT", a World History.
Yeah, it's non-fiction, about salt and it is terrific. He also wrote a book about cod.

    What are you people reading?

Neil Bissoondath's "Doing the Heart Good". I've been on a southeast asia kick since Rohinton Mistry's "A Fine Balance". Some V.S. Naipaul next.

          Murakami rocks

I started "Elephant Vanishes" by Huraki Murakami because it was on the shelf of the Sun Hut, a little guest house with clean huts and a water fountain garden in a small town in the mountains of northern Thailand, in February. There was no leaving the hammok while it was still unread, and I had to call for many a coffee shake. I've utterly fallen for this guy's work, and stand behind "Norwegian Wood", and moreover "The Wind Up Bird Chronicle". His writing stands alone.

Lynne, this is Asia on toast, with flashes of brilliance that literally made me close the book and be. (More than once.) I drank "A fine Balance" like water last year. So crazy sad.

Evan, good luck with the photoshop tales. The style is crisp, if a tad glossy, but the plot is developed with a good finish.
