    SNOT NOSE

yesterday out of the blue, after a lovely morning of walking my dogs in mclaren park, i got hit with the worst onset of spring allergies i've had since i first discovered i had allergies at age 12.

nose running like a faucet. eyes swollen nearly shut. coughing, spurting... feeling like el crappo. i'm a mess.

i've tried sudafed, allevert, claritin, bien-pien (chinese herbal)... i've netti-potted (pouring warm salt water up one's nose - a lovely experiance, i reccomend it to those who haven't tried it...) i had my flat-mate perform an acupuncture treatment on me (oh, the benefits of having an accupuncturist/massage therapist/herbologist as a flat-mate!)

    NOTHING IS HELPING!

does anyone out there have ANY legitimate suggestions for how to alleviate this misery?

aside from chopping my head off...

my nose is raw like ground steak...

    arrrgh.

sounds like chinese chicken flu to me, I'd get to the emergency room as soon asap !!

Seriously though, my mum used to put this stuff called Friars balsam into some steaming water, and then I'd have to sit there with a towel over my head while everything came flooding out. Justs gets rid of it quicker. It's an English thing, so don't know if you'd get it there. It's just some kinda mix of herbs and stuff.

            I know it's a pain...

I get hayfever really bad in the summer, esp if I'm near grass, uesd to be hell at school, trying not to sneeze, and cough loudly in class...

              THANKS FOR ALL THE SUGGESTIONS...

i'll have to try to find some of those herbals... we have tons of really good shops here which carry international things... i'll go ask at the drugstore in the richmond if they've ever heard of either of those two things.

              meh.

the worst part of it is i have to go direct a bunch of middle school kids this afternoon, (i'm directing a production of "the music man" - don't get me started on the life of a freelance director/actor/variety artist!!!) and, it's never good to be off one's game when dealing with teenagers.

hopefully they'll go easy on me...

if no one's heard from me in three days - check the hamilin school in san francisco for my snotty remains.

I can't help with the allergies, but this will help with the symptoms. I apologise if you already know this.

Avoid Dairy products like the plaque, use soya milk instead, stay away from dairy cheeses.

Eat lots of onions and garlick and other such herbs. Drink lots of fluids, especially cranberry juice.

It's not a cure, but it works for my friends. I am lucky, my symptoms are minimal.

                      ON THE TOPIC OF CHEESE

i decided last evening that i wanted a snack - the first time i had been hungry in two days due to my hideous outbreak of allergies - i made myself a nice big plate of nachos. (all ORGANIC nachos, at that!) and, my flat-mate yanked them out of my hands and asked me if i was crazy... which, perhaps i am - but, not because i want nachos for a snack... i forgot the cheese thing.

                      meh.

i LOVE cheese, man... i'm from the midwest.

There are other cheeses out there now. Non dairy cheeses. Some are quite nice. Some are reaally really awful.

yeah... i've tried vegan "cheese" and i think it's pretty yucky. but, that's okay - i'll just avoid it until this allergy crud passes me by... claritin should be kicking in any day now.

                          blargh.

                            Onions really help. Remember that.

When ever I have stuffed nose for whatever reason, I eat lots of onion. It is really amazing.

Of course I stink of onion, but hey, that's better than a lot of other stuff.

i've been loading up on garlic - but, i am allergic to raw onion, so i cannot eat them unless they are cooked. and, i think that the very element in a raw onion which i'm allergic to is the element which helps your sinuses.

ah, well... good thing i like garlic. mmm. garlic.
