Course its all just water off a ducks back

And you only amuse yourself. Your occupation is to represent a particularily british form of self depreciation. You are so awe inspiringly dum as to convince yourself you are anything more than a comparative relief to grim people. Your whole point is to be a 'there but for the grace of god go I' with legs. Its obvious your perfect for the job. Who else could wring any pride out of being mediocre, desperately insecure and stubbornly delusional.
Tis unfortunate now with the internet and all, that theres a surplice of idiots here in the global village.
Your just one of many. I'm glad you make the kids laugh. Thats undeniably a good thing, but other than childrens entertainment I fear your a little overwhelmed out here in the big wide world.
Rumple makes you look like a guy who used to work at a job center who now wears a funny hat.
Because thats essentially what you are.
Its been real, thanks for bearing your buttocks so persistantly.

This whole thread has become an embarrassment to p.net. Has any-one noticed how many guests are looking at this shit just because it's always on top.

Years of work by Jim for this?

It is understood by most of us that the pursuit of outstanding excellence in our profession requires obsession. We all have it in us at various degrees.

Misguided obsession is dangerous and scarey.

I would like to see this thread wither away whilst we get on with telling each other about good books, acts, jokes etc. Sadly, I think it may require some form of administrative action.

Perhaps it is worth closing the entire "Blah Blah Blah" section for a week or two just to bring back some perspective to the philosophies that are behind this resource. It might be good for every-one to take more than one deep breath and think about what we are doing.

PS. This is coming from some-one who loves a good brawl but grew up understanding that it's always better to take it outside.

so its a bilious sink hole big deal.

P.net is useful or it isn't, who cares what 'people' think. To live in fear of these ominious 'people'?
Face it 'people' equals your own sense of decency. Which I've obviously bruised, so be it. Or its residue of your parents tut tuting. I've finished here. I knew it would get ugly, its been ugly the whole way through. But you try and SHAME us?
That sort of hypocrisy just pisses me off.
You were on here trying to get the abuse back on track at one stage and now you want 'book talk'.
'Administrative action' yes lets call the authorities.
We should be punished for 'lowering the tone' of the blah blah section.
Your either taking the piss, or your suffering from a maudlin spasm.
This is as nice a place I suppose to wrap up as any.
Yes we may have created a monster, Jester did actually, LETS BURN HIM!!!.
Or ban me or put up some commandments, or issue me with a minder. Oh hello Peter.

            red card for Martin

Good, I think its high time Martin be handed a red card, not so much to raise the esteem of pnet in the eyes of the world, (considerably high, doubtless, though I'm sure there have been many a corporate takeover opportunity lost by the downgrade that this black eye of a thread represents, and that Jim's face must by now have gone from a pasty, snowish shade of pale winter chaulk white, through ruddy red-cheeked youth, right into WC Fields nasal red, over the past weeks, and is by now doubtless comparable to a local fire hydrant), but for his (Ewen's) persistant abuse of basic sentance structure, and his "English-is-my-second-language" built-in excuse-mechanistic, anything-goes spelling style, complete with its total disregard for what any ten-fingered typing mortal knows would be the absolute end of a given sentance, I mean, for God's sake, there are limits to what we can be expected to endure here, so in the end, I say carry on with the blastfire hell and damnation content, by all means, but for gods sake, the period key is right next to the comma, don't be so sparing with it, and if you are walking for two weeks, I pity the thread.

OK. I'm going to close this thread for a little while while things seem to have cooled down.

I've been thinking about this for a while. As I noted earlier (when I temporarily closed this thread before) I've been disappointed with the overall tone of things around here lately. And it's not just me. I've received a couple emails from members and heard in person that people don't check in as often as they used to because the "signal-to-noise" ratio at performers.net has been off the scale over the last couple months.

I've toyed with the idea of closing Blah Blah Blah a couple days a week and seeing if we could all make an effort to participate in ACTUAL, USEFUL forums on those days. I'd like to think people could do that WITHOUT me having to do anything administratively, but I will try it if you all think it's a good idea.

I would LOVE to check in here one day and see "Today's Active Topics" be filled with less than 50% Blah Blah Blah threads. (It's called Blah Blah Blah for a reason.) And I'm sure there would be more overall participation from older members if they came by to check things out and there were a dozen active threads about PERFORMING.

What do you think? Can we all make an effort to start one NEW performing topic before the week is over? Is that too much to ask of members of the "performers.net forums"?

The Northern Hemisphere's performing season is about to kick off in a big way. What's going on in your world?
