    torture TV

I thought about putting this in "link a day..." but it's so f-'ed up that it deserves it's own thread.

UK Channel 4 has a new reality show where it puts contestants under the reported conditions of the US Guantanamo Bay Detention Center to see how well they hold up.

I'd prefer to see Rumsfeld and company doing it instead of contestants.

No UCO. I don't think it is meant as gratuitous entertainment for sickos. I think it is to help us all come to terms with the crap that is happening.

I realize that Jester, it was my first reation to the article.
As a tool for edjucation of what is happing it doesn't seem harmful, but alot of sickos have access to tv and will tune in every week to see who has withstood the cruelties of the US goverment.( Real or not).
But the statments made about aquiring information through torture to battle terrorist, are scary and that statement gives a certain twisted justifacation to whoever is holding the whip. So the public could consider it as a OK thing to do
            not everyone of course.
It also depends on the station and the creators of how it is presented eh! I guess well see.
Maybe I will start to write a musical on same thing

If you're gonna write a musical, could I contribute some lyrics:

              "Springtime for Hitler in Germany."

The documentary is undoubtedly controversial and lacking in taste, but Channel 4 is a left leaning liberal television company that rejoices in challenging governments and the status quo.

Obviously we will have to wait and see, but I doubt that this documentary will in any way encourage torture in the future. However, Peadophiles enjoy documentaries about child abuse, rapists enjoy documentaries about sexual violence. I still beleive they should be made.

However, I certainly share your discomfort with the subject matter.
