    busking career speech

I'm giving a speech my COM 115 speech class about street performing and I was wondering if any of you had any good ideas for openers or closers as well as the following topics...

    defining street performing
    the money issue
    other benefits and problems

any other good topics to add

i have already read all of the info for beginners/ pretty much everything i can find on performers.net
my speech is only 2-3 minutes so i don't have time to go extremely in depth, but i want to make sure my info is interesting and stands out.

    thanks in advance!

Forrest, Good topic for a speech. My feelings, I am 60 yrs old and have been performing now for 7 yrs.

In this world you get your "job evaluation" every minute you're on the street. You are either very good, and your hats show that, or you stink and your hats are empty. When you can support yourself as a street performer you KNOW that you are like the Marines, the very best.

A good way to end the speech

Well class, if you liked my speech, you know what to do. Don't walk away like that cheap [enter explitive here](gesture to teacher)!

        very good and hats

Your hat has nothing to do with how good your act is. Much better performers than myself get smaller hats and some much worse performers get big hats.

One of the most disappointing things about a street performers convention I went to years ago was all anyone talked about was not "how can my act get better?" But "how can my hat get bigger?"

Jester, I'm glad that you said that. It is very true and should be said more often!

Even still, you should really think of a hat line to do at the end of your presentation 'cause it'd be funny. Just remind the rest of the class that, "nobody pays me to be here, but this is how I make my living. If you enjoyed my speech then please be generous, if you didn't enjoy it then please ask yourself, "why did I sit here and watch it?" C'mon people I don't want to make anyone feel guilty but it takes alot of money to put on a show like this. Tuition, books, lab fees and don't even get me started about the time comitment. Thank You, Thank You! (Weep here) You're the best crowd I ever had!"

"It's people like you who make it possible for performers like me to avoid doing any actual real work."

Just keep it up dude, until everyone in the class, including your instructor, has coughed up their lunch money. Then you'll want to take all the money you collected for your performance and invest it in as much Milwakee's Best or Pabst Blue Ribbon you can get your hands on. Invite everyone on campus over and have an absolute blow out, knock down old fashioned college drinking contest. Wahoooooooo. Yeah Baby, that's what I'm talking about!

            Glad I could help. (again)

                my college buddies say

                Dan,

you've been out of college too long. drinking honey brown or something I suspect. my college buddies say PBR IS milwakee's best. that's their little motto. I think it tastes like nuts. No seriously, that stuff tastes just like peanuts. Right? Anyone?

                mfw

ps- did you do a show at the orpheum theater for first night about 4 years ago or so?? If so, you were hilarious and inspirational. now get your cheap beer straight.

i just received my grade. i got an A. not a perfect score, but close. everyone loved the presentation and especially the hatline at the end, but sadly i am still just as poor as before. i guess i should work on my hatlines a whole lot more.
