    playing with the people

hi there, just got home from an amazing night that made me realise just how far removed from the people an entertainer can become even though we draw on people for entertainment purposes. It seems to me that I am always working at events, dreading the onset of the fireworks displays, looking at the punters like sheep waiting to corraled into my show and basically being cynical.
Tonight I was surprised. I am at home in Perth WA visiting my family at the moment and my father somehow wangled some corporate box tickets to the World Rally Championships that are happening here and asked me along. Now cars are not really my thing, but free piss and my father holding the car keys was enough to quickly allay my fears of the general populace and ensue my attendance.
What followed was a night of discovery, apart from getting to know my Old man a little bit better I also got to see an event from another side. Especially interesting because I have worked this particular event several times as an entertainer. I found that the people attending where nice and just out for a good time, the fireworks were pretty and with enough booze in me the cars racing around were almost exciting. I also had crazy discussions with some people from really diverse professions who thank god didnt want to just talk about how " exotic and exciting " my life apparently was and had stories of their own to tell.
It made me realise how jaded I had become and also made me think back to the last event I had attended without being paid, and guess what, with the exception of my best mates wedding earlier in the year (and fuck he should have paid me) I cant think of any.
Dont know if anyone else can relate to this but it made me feel like sharing.
Check it out, it happens all time, everywhere, real people having fun, people who arent entertainers, people who are into different things....even cars.
    Life is beautiful

    Right on,Lee.

It is so easy to get "above" it all and roll your eyes at the masses. Saturday, I'll be going to the opening of the Modern in NY, as a guest, and I'll be one of the fancy-dressed pigs at the sushi trough I so often roll my eyes at. Good reminder.
