And now you want me to say something? I have been reading this stuff and I was under the impression that the very thing that wasn't needed was an actual well thought out opinion. Bloody hell. Look I am going away for a week and will come up with something fascinating or not and then I will let you know. Until then may your head be ever shiny.
      Love to Kumi

        Deep thoughts from Famos B

I'm not so sure it's fascinating to you but I’ve been wondering lately about how sarcasm started … not mimicry, but verbal sarcasm … who was/were the first? Was it Moliere?

Erasmus wrote with and about sarcasm. The word comes from the greek sarkazo- to speak bitterly.

            Is there sarcasm in Shakespeare?

Oh, really ... and here I was thinking it came from the Latin word sarcus to "take a bite of flesh"... somebody told me that, but I didn't check.

            Don't I look stupid ...?

Well look, I have been away again and am back so I thought I would wander in and see how the life is on this lovely board and what do I find but Americans discussing sarcasm. Like French waiters discussing manners. I love you all.

                        ... or Brits discussing hygiene.

And this coming from a country that still has bubonic plague. Remember, not everything historic is quaint and worth collecting. Back in a week.

There is this stupid idea that Americans don't have Irony and therefore don't understand sarcasm!

Did anyone ever see "Soap" or "Roseanne Barr" or Benson? I think that stereotype is about as dead as a dodo.

As for hygene, capped teeth may appear cleaner and nicer, but there are just as many nasty germs underneath.... and replacing germs with carcogens is not good hygene.

There you are having a perfectly pleasant conversation based on slagging each other off using well worn and frankly lovable racial stereotypes when the beardy in the corner suddenly gets up and in a manner that he believes is wise and highly laudable interjects with some "facts". There ia a collective uncomfortable sigh and the party moves to another room but takes at least another minute to get going again while said beardy nods wisely to any one unlucky enough to be too drunk to get up.
