Oh the fun you could have with a stuffed animal, a bottle of ketchup, and a club, boggle the mind.

      Just kidding...I think.

      Best,

I saw a great show where the guy comes out with a small suitcase and opens it and starts grabbing things and chucking them down, it was though he was discovering each prop for the first time, the first few things didn't really interest him that much, but eventually he pulls out a teddy bear with one hand and a large knife with the other, he looks from one to the other a couple of times, lets the moment hang then stabs the teddy. He pulls the knife out and blood pours out of the wound, he looks up at the crowd and says with astonishment, "They DO bleed."
One of the best opening lines ever.

Why don't you cats work that big spot?the hats are huge down there.

well, I think you have a bigger show than most of us here, but here are some good reasons.
in the heat of the summer there isn't any good shade for day shows. new shade nets help but arn't very convincing.
if it's slow out it's harder to stop people down there, and even harder to get them to move in close. they can watch from sooo far away.
          acoustics are better
          more places to sit
festivals/concerts always set up stages down there.
courthouse square is where all the gutter punks hang out.

so that makes it a good spot on busy nights when there is no festival/concert. Not very consistant. we just had a whole week of slow days/nights. The spots we use are pretty well recognized as being where the big circle acts work and we don't have to fight with people over it much.
I always let other performers into the rotation. if they can't hold a croud we encourage them to use off peek time slots or other spots on the mall.
I don't know, maybe we should change the system, but we like the one we have.

Did anybody else feel that Evan's last post on this subject sounded like a big exercise of excuse delivery?

No. Evan is dead on. The circle shows in Boulder do always work the next block up. Al can get a crowd in Siberia in January.
Do they have January in Siberia?

Evan, I know where Boulder is, we have worked there for at least 7 years, just not very often. We work a pitch two or three blocks from where you say the only pitch is. It has always worked really well for us. another great thing about where we work is we dont have to deal with PETA or other performers that think they are the greatest thing to happen to street since the pole. (no I'm not speaking about you). Next time we are in Bouler we will be sure to come and say hello.

Last night I showed up to the spot and there was a blue grass band playing on it. Kenny was in the middle of his show and I had to wait anyway so I put off talking to them. They were really good, had a croud and everything, and I wasn't looking forward to asking them to take a half hour break. I wasn't sure if they knew much about pearl st or who I was.

when I did go over to talk to them I didn't have to say anything. they just smiled and said "we say you over there and we will move up to just past the ice cart when ever you're ready." I smiled, told them they have another 15 minuits and told them to keep their croud entertained. They did move when I was ready, exactly like they said they would, and I threw a couple bucks in their hat, (part because they were really good, and part cuz they were good neighbors).

that kind of interaction will only happen on our two spots in that block. when I worked other spots on the mall last year I got a lot of resentment from the musicians because I was killing their spots. when we set up next to or near a resteraunt with an outside patio we destroy their best spots.
I looked at your website and it seems that you're kind of a musical act, so maybe that's part of it. or maybe they just don't mind b/c you arn't there very often.
Sounds like you work the south block near the elk statue. I hope you do come and say hi.

BTW PETA can't use their TV ever again acording to the city. I'll see them again tonight probably.

We are somewhat a musical act, but we do a show, not just play. The show is just around 30 min. We actually work the west end in front of Old Chicago. The people at OCs have never given us problems but if we go a little further down, other restraunts do mess with us.. we are pretty loud also. The pitch used to be alot better before they added the garden area. We will say hi next time we are around.

Tne New York Street Boys... from Denver rock! They are a music act. They're a music act kind of like "Stomp" only funnier and not as attractive. Not so concerned with personal hygene as Stomp. But they do a really fun show.
