Creativity Contest

This is a thread for establishing rules, voicing opinions about a creative exertion contest. This was Dan Holzman's idea. Here is his initial challenge:

Right now though I have a challenge for any of you readers like Eric, Martin and Jester who feel so superior to me. How about a bet?
I'll put up $250.00. We'll start a pot. Who ever has the best creative accomplishment in the next 6 months gets the money.

I'm talking about books, movies, plays, ect. Not posts on performers.net. let's see who's willing to put their money where there mouth is. Or are you all too scared to rise to the challenge.

We can let Jim be the judge, and he can hold the money.

So if feel you can do anything of any kind of quality in the real world now is your chance to prove it.

So let's see who can land a part on a sitcom, publish a book,write a screenplay, ect. Maybe beating me will give you the incentive to get off your flabby creative asses and take a swing at the real prize.

Defining achievements

Sounds to me like dan's just about to sell a screenplay, (right tongue in the right arse at the right time.) and needs a forum for trumpetblowing with a little extra kitty thrown in. (I'm getting a transparent poker gambit picture here)
Given the reality that a screenplays purchase is the first step in a surreal process of literary rape where teams of extremely well paid/connected amusing dinner party conversationalists react on paper to the capricious whims of their bosses to render what may have simply been an interesting idea with or without flesh into a common denominator, mass appeal, "honey i shrank my imagination." bloatfest while the original creator consoles him/herself with a padded bank account as their idea is castrated in a distant villa overlooking LA (remember to breath martin), I am uncomfortable having screenplay selling or sitcom participation as registered great achievements.

I'm already happy with doing something of quality in the real world and while I'm more than happy to jump every time Dan tries to pull a string and involve me in a possibly loaded contest, I'm unhappy so far with the paltry choices available.
I'm prepared to take part in 'The least flabby ass' competition with dan One on one (so to speak), you need an electron microscope to view mine.

As to superiority well its a subjective thing, and only really works if your blind to your weaknesses.
I'm uncomfortable with any venture where you get to write the rules Dan and I'm undriven to launch myself into any venture designed to regain your spotty standing.
It seems you wish to simply move from one pissing contest to the next.
While my bladder has always been one of my more attractive features I'm afraid as it presently stands this ego-reflating attempt at competitive creativity
is something that I'll have to ignore.
Too scared i guess.

Goal setting

Martin,
You got me again.
I did just finish a screenplay, but I haven't sold it yet. I've sent it in to an agent at ICM and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm sure you would beat me in a flabby ass contest. Mine is huge and covered with hair. I don't have buns of steel, I have buns like steel wool.

I like your description of the screenplay process. I wrote a very shallow morally bankcrupt script with the primary motive behind it being my lust for cash, and my desire to be in the movie business. I will gladly e-mail you a copy if you would like.

Okay let's scratch the contest idea. Even though I think Jim would be a fair judge, the idea strikes me as someones desperate attempt to regain his spotty standing on performers.net.

I do like the idea of goal setting, so I am going to start a seperate thread listing some of the goals I would like to achieve before the end of the year. If other people think that this would be a valuable thing for them to do, I invite them to list their goals on the new thread.

Well, thanks to Martin and Dan for taking up a bunch of space to say that they don't want to take part in the contest in it's current state. Also, screw both of you for slowing the process and not attempting to create a contest which a number of people would agree to take part in.

INTRO:
These are ideas of how to manage the contest. Please continue to post your ideas. The contest construction should be open as performers.net is.

ENTRY FEE:
The entry fee could partially go to Jim and help with site maintenence costs. People don't pay him to do this, and they get gigs, and sell and buy on this site. I think we should all consider this a great opportunity to be spurned by competition and give a gift to the man who has gifted us with this site so great for typing random - self-agrandizing brain bile. $50 seems good.

PRIZE:
Since this is a busking site, we could award the most creatively productive kid a new tophat and a plaque.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Projects should be judged apon completion. Any one competitor could enter as many projects as he/she completes within the time boundries. The sum of all projects within a 6 month period will be judged. It's not a project versus project competition, it's creator versus creator.

The judge will take into account:
- creativity (concept and production)
- money earned
- capitol invested
- materials used
- scope of reach
- influence on the performance / art community
- work invested
- quality of output
