    Ah.. the irony

DEA Agent Shoots Self During Gun Safety Class

    POSTED: 11:27 am EDT April 30, 2004

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A federal drug agent shot himself in the leg during a gun safety presentation to children and his bosses are investigating.

The Drug Enforcement Administration agent, whose name was not released, was giving a gun safety presentation to about 50 adults and students organized by the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association, witnesses and police said.

He drew his .40-caliber duty weapon and removed the magazine, according to the police report. Then he pulled back the slide and asked someone in the audience to look inside the gun and confirm it wasn't loaded, the report said.

Witnesses said the gun was pointed at the floor and when he released the slide, one shot fired into the top of his left thigh.

"The kids screamed and started to cry," said Vivian Farmer, who attended the presentation with her 13-year-old nephew.

"Everyone was pretty shaken up," Farmer said. "But the point of gun safety hit home. Unfortunately, the agent had to get shot. But after seeing that, my nephew doesn't want to have anything to do with guns."

The agent was treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center after the April 9 shooting and returned to work, DEA special agent Joe Kilmer said.

Police ruled the shooting was an accident, but the DEA headquarters in Washington was still investigating, Kilmer said.

Irony at it's best. Too bad the guy had to get shot, as his intentions were good.

Poor kids in the room too, not only did they have to witness someone getting shot, but they must have a pretty shaken view on the competence of their authorities... Heh heh.

"Mommy, how can drug agents protect me from narcotics dealers if they can't walk because they're shooting themselves in the legs all the time?"

    "I don't know dear, I just don't know..."

          Posh kids

Why the posh kids at a golf club. Why not all of the kids at the schools?

Every kid, no matter what his race or background is entitled to watch the authorities shoot themselves in the foot, or the leg or whatever.

Thank Heaven it was only his leg, and I hope the damage isn't permanent. Personally I say just take the guns away.

"Take the guns away" ??? That is what they did in Australia. Took them away from the law abiding old folks, leaving them defenseless. So non law abiding home invaders are free to break in and beat and rob them.

                    That's not irony

                    That isn't Irony.

If you had taken your child out of class because you suspected the teacher was a pedo and then hired Spanky the clown instead, only to find months later that Sandals and dodgy fashion sense is not necessarily the mark of a pedarist and the teacher was actually innocent. That would be Irony.

Spanky the Clown + Kiddy Porn isn't Irony, it is tragic, it is disgusting, it is bloody bad news for all of the decent folks in our industry.

                    Kiddy Porn = Child Abuse.

                    No laughing matter.

Alanis Morrisette and the Song Ironic is not actually Ironic.

I do not know if we here in the UK happen to have a different meaning of Ironic but the vast majority of what she sings in the song is not Ironic.

For example: "A free ride when you have already paid" - There would have to be someone there to give you the free ride or take the money. They would not do both. They would tell you that you have a free ride and do not need to pay.

"Ten Thousand Spoons when all you need is a knife" That is not Ironic, That is just damn annoying.

"Rain on your wedding day" just because it is your wedding it will not change the metealogical movements. If you get married in the UK in December you can expect rain.

"Like meeting the man of your dreams and then meeting his beautiful wife" - Why would anyone in their right mind image their dream man as a man who is already married? That makes no sense.

In fact the only reason why the song is Ironic is because it is called Ironic and not abour Ironic Things.

                      How Ironic.

If, by ironic, you in the UK mean poignantly contrary to what was expected or intended, then each of the scenarios you mention could be considered ironic, and the sole flex is in the mindset of the observer just prior to the event.

An impulsively generous bus driver could solve your opening puzzle, complete with black cap and epaulettes, if you like.

Glad I could be of help there.

I think it's Ironic that in a community of performers some of us choose to sign off as "Equity Member."

It's like signing off by saying "I've got a bank account" or "I have access to the internet."

                            LOL
