      good good magician

Like your uncle at a family party, the rumpled Swedish doctor Lennart Green says, "Pick a card, any card." But what he does with those cards is pure magic -- flabbergasting, lightning-fast, how-does-he-do-it? magic.

          from Henry the Fiddler

          Hi everyone ...

Playing For Change: Peace Thru Music ... a gem to behold. 10 years in the making, Mark Johnson recorded buskers worldwide and mixed them all into one, courtesy of the miracles of on location, live street recording. Words cannot describe this gem! I've never seen anything like it. If you can possibly make the 18 minutes, go for the whole thing. If not, I've provided some alternative links for shorter clips. Many thx to Tom and Ron for sending this my way. What a bright star to show up in the midst of so much bad news on so many fronts. So, here's the links:

18:26, high quality, watch full screen (little icon to the right of "%"). They talk about a DVD in here, but so far, I can't find it anywhere. Maybe not out yet. Check the Playing For Change website below. Let me know if you find this DVD!

            Words can't describe this gem

B Man thanks for your post on Playing for change. I was filmed for several days in that video as well playing my banjo with my dog Mo Money in New Orleans. I haven't seen it yet though. Grandpa Elliott and I have been friends for many years. We played together a lot in the 90's and early 2000. He use to have a guitar player named stony B. that played with him and they had one really good act.stony would play guitar and grandpa would play harmonica, roll his eyes to the back of his head while chewing his curd, dressed in po mans clothes sitt'in on a milk create. You could here Grandpa's voice for blocks. They made a lot of cash too. They were just what the white folks from the south wanted to see, and loved. I understand Stony hasn't been seen sense the hurricane. The video brought back many fond memories. If the rest of "playing for change" is as good it is one hell of a documentary.

              P.S.

I also played some with wash board Chaz in boulder, Co. We played together in some of the coffee houses there on Pearl St. along with my wash board player, my wife at the time, Rebeca Ruth.He lives up in Gold Hill in the mountains north of Boulder. What an interesting guy and great player.

Well, maybe I WILL just keep telling myself that.
