and still the war goes on...

It's almost 49 minutes long, but well worth it. Naturally it comes from England:

                  My Roots

This is the group of musicians I hung out with in NOLA in the early '70's ... we were street performers (Jackson Square) during the day and performed for tips in a local bar (The Wrong Place) at night. Charlie Blue ran the place ("Goodtime Charlie's got the Blues" was written about him)

if you search you will find two famous street acts pictured ...Babe Stovall and Henry the Fiddler

"The Wrong Place wasn't just a very pleasant and emotional experience of my youth, to me. It changed the way I looked at and felt about a lot of things, helped shape and form my character and personality, made me aware of my strengths and weaknesses, and had a lasting (hopefully permanent) influence on me and on my life from that time forward. It taught me a lot, not only about music, but about people. I think most of us knew, even back then, that at least some of the friendships we were forming were for life; that, no matter where life took us as individuals, we would find a way to keep in touch and continue to share with each other the best of who and what we are. I still, to this day, have a sense of belonging, of being a part of something unique and special, that began in that bar so many years ago and has lasted through all I've lived since then. The names I associate with that place and time still have a kind of magic about them; and even small, insignificant events are firmly imbedded in my memory and fondly recalled. And the songs... it still gives me a special feeling to sing the songs from back then. "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues", "This Road Is My Home", "Dixie Blue", "Drivin' Wheel", "900 Miles", "Tearin' Down My Mind", "Yankee Lady", "Post War Baby Boom Rag", "All Day At The Pornos", etc., etc., etc. Captivating and/or delightful performances of those songs, by some of the best singers, songwriters and musicians I have ever met, witnessed at close quarters from the bar or from the picnic tables flanking that little stage... Everything good that I've seen and heard since then has been just more icing on the cake." -Leather

                              Nice.
I spent a year once, writing to companies, asking for free samples to be mailed to my friend, Yoyo.
                              It was my only hobby.
He got lots of free crap. Some really big stuff.
This would have helped a great deal back then.

...He threw out his autographed photo and letter from Preston Manning (The then Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, and mentor to our current Prime Minister) because Yoyo was American and didn't know who he was.

He kept the exceptionally large Koolaid poster.

Well, maybe I WILL just keep telling myself that.

This act got cut after the first 20 seconds when they aired it but I think he should have gone all the way.
