I am a mimic. I love doing accents. I am quite good at French and Irish and can manage a Scottish if I've had a few pints of Guiness under my belt [img]wink.gif[/img]
I find that people's curiosity are peaked when they hear a foriegn (sp?) accent. I have been deliberating on whether or not to use my French/Irish accent for the duration of my dhow. When it's finished I would then tell them in my plain Canadian accent who I am.

Would this be "offensive"? Personally I think it's hilarious as long as it's pulled off correctly.
Any thoughts?

If your accent is part of your act, I see no harm, as long as you're not denigrating those with accents.

I agree with Matt -- if your accent is part of the costume and character and it is not an attempt to degrade anyone, I can't see any harm. I think the reveal at the finalè could really kill if done well. Good luck!

In the past I've had different reactions from people and my accents. Some love it and some ---usually French or Irish [img]wink.gif[/img] ---don't always find it that appealing. I did fool a Norweigan guy into thinking I was Irish. That was funny. He still wanted to go out with me even after I told him I was Canadian. <img src="graemlins/haha.gif" border="0" alt="[ha ha]" />

If you ever get to see Justin Case perform, he's a classic example of what Chance just referred to. He's an australian bike/circus act who does his entire show - start to finish - in fractured Parisian French - at the very end when he thanks the audience he reveals his roots and it's a great cherry on the sundae - what's great about it is half the people still think he's French and just shitting them with another accent at the end. He's based out of Montreal now by the way living w. Wendy Vousden (ex. Sensible Footwear) and tours a lot with Big Apple Circus out of NY. I spent a lot of my career, particularly the fringe fests, convinced that the acts with genuine accents were making more money than me - more likely it had to do with my shite show....
