The ALCS was one of the best series in the history of baseball. Long time rivals, seven hard fought games, the last game going to the 11th inning - neither team wanting to give up, but in the end the BEST team won.
Carl, shame on you, "buy, buy, buy" has been a part of BASEBALL for at least the last 10 yrs. You can't say the Yankees only win because of that. Yes, the Marlins of '97 bought the ring, which is why they have not been back to the series until now, but don't forget that a big part of the Yankees success: Jeter, Soriano, Bernie, Pettitte, Posada, Mariano... have come up from the Yankee farm system. They were not bought to win a World Series. They are 100% Yankee.
As Julio said, the Yankees Rule. They don't win because they have money to buy victories, they win because they are a great team and that is why they are in the World Series. Yes... of course money helps to buy great players but they need to play with 25 other guys and be kept in check by a great coaching staff to be successful. Look at Texas and A-Rod. He gets paid way too much money and plays on a team that won't see the play-offs for a long time.
The Marlins are a great team that beat another great team. Of course the World Series would get better ratings if the Cubs or the Sox were in it because it's a novelity - it's like in the sideshow, everyone wants to see the Spider Girl or The Figi Mermaid. They know it's not real but want to believe it's possible, so they pay their $.50 (or tune in to Fox) and enjoy the illusion.
    Go Yanks!

The yankees win game three 6 to 1 the so called below average player Arron Boone who hit the game winning home run against the Red sox in game seven stikes again with a home run in the 8th inning to break the 1 to 1 tie against the Marlins.

No shit, Brian? I didn't know that, actually, and I'm glad to hear it. I might invite cynicism too much sometimes. Talking without checking my facts again.
Since the strike I've decided that cashola has ruined the game, and like most people, instead of looking for what is there, I choose a premise and gather evidence. Did the Yanks spend more than any other team on talent?

Boone the boom had below average stats this year, I think. That's pretty straightforward. He's in his glory now though, and will be remembered by yank fans. I wonder if Florida can squeek one out to make it an interesting series. How much would net execs have to pay George to buy a dive?

            hey julio,

can't wait 'til Bernie Williams comes back to the area this winter and brings his kids to the pitch. If they beat the marlins, i'm gonna have to "clown" him during a show.

            GO BUCS!!!!

              Pretty amazing stuff here:

              MLB Salary Database

              Sorted by Team Payroll

Click around and search other ways...

Alex Rodriguez made $22,000,000 this year.
              Manny Ramirez made $20,000,000.
The TEAM salary for the Devil Rays was only $19,600,000 total.

              Damn.

Yanks lose to the Marlins in 12th inning the final score 4 to 3 the series is now tied 2 games to 2. Those Marlins are young but talented and determand i predict a game seven, a tough game seven but in the end THE YANKEES WILL RULE!!!

I predict the Yankees will win the next game, tie up the series and go to game 7. Game 7 will be tied, go for 11 or 12 innings and the Yankees will lose because of an error attributed to Aaron Boone. Then Joe Torre will be fired by George Steinbrenner and wind up as the manager of the Red Sox in 2004 after Grady Little resigns in early November.

                      I just have a feeling.

I think I enjoyed that full-on shutout tonight in part just to see you proven wrong after that post.
What a fine pitcher, a nine inning shut down, with a well-fielded tag to stop the yanks in their tracks. How does the crow taste?

Man, my predictions were WAY off... except for the part about the Yankees losing the World Series.

Sorry Julio. But you gotta admit that Beckett pitched a great game. And for him to get the last out was pretty sweet.

The Grady Little announcement will happen within a week. Don Zimmer is out and Joe Torre is threatening to walk. Clemens is finished, Petitte may be leaving the Yanks... The Sox and the Yanks may be very different teams next season.

                            How about those Pats?

Well, the Red Sox have won 5 World series, including the first world series ever held. I know the last one was 1918, but hey... at least we never lost a game to the Marlins.
