    audience energy

ever have those shows where the audience gets more into you show than you do and it makes everything really damn easy for you? And then the next day you have to work your ass off just to get them to step up to the circle?
Last night I told my audience that I wanted them to out-cheer the crowd watching the contortionist down the street; and then they wouldn't shut up. Every single time his show got applause my crowd out did it, and I didn't even have to cue them. Hoots and hollors for every single little trick or smile or whatever. I started to worry because I thought I was going to wear them out too much for the next performer. And now it's friday, and if I know friday nights, getting the audience to cheer me on tonight is going to be like pulling teeth.

An audience has to willing to give you your position, if they refuse to accept that you're in the middle of all attention, They'll give you a hard time. That's why drunks can be both most fun to work with or just plain horrible. They like you, or they like you not...
I noticed the wheather is of great influence on crowd responses. When it's windy for example - or a storm is even just approaching - crowds tend to get more nasty and edgy. A sunny day isn't necissarily good either, if it's too warm or too humid, the people get a bit too lazy. After a few hot days it turns for the good, but beware if it's unusually hot for a long time on a row: people then can get slightly agressive, I noticed.
