Warren lived quietly (almost secretly) in Australia for 5-6 years and has only recently returned home. I've been listening to a compilation of his stuff a lot lately.
Songs that were written 20 years ago like "The Envoy" and "Mohammed's Radio" leave me, today, somewhere between elated by his sight and devastated by the truth.
"Roland, the Headless Thompson Gunner", "Lawyers, Guns and Money" seem to say enough but then there's "Play It All Night Long", "Mr Bad Example" and "It Ain't That Pretty At All", just to make you think some more about world events.
It's also not hard to figure out why living quietly on the other side of the world was a good idea for Warren in the 90's.
His work has an incomparable wit.
P.netters who don't know his songs should try to find them before he accepts a better offer on a bigger stage.

I've been away from the computer for a week or two and I was pleased that this topic had come up.
I believe that Zevon was one of the geniuses of our time. If you don't believe me, just ask Dylan or Springstein.
He lived well, and "The Wind", his final album, is a fitting finale to his magnificent carreer.
I find it difficult to write about the meaning of his music. For me it is intensely personal, and so to drag it out and try to explain it to the rest of the species is painful if not impossible to do.
Since his death I've been listening to his music more or less constantly. I own all of his albums. Here, I might as well throw out a few titles.
Poor Poor Pitiful Me
Desperados Under the Eaves
Play it All Night Long
Mohammed's Radio (Live version if you can find it)
Detox Mansion
Run Straight Down
Splendid Isolation
Roll with the Punches
The French Inhaler
Mutineer
Genius
My Ride's Here
Angel Dressed in Black
Don't Let Us Get Sick
Disorder in the House
Prison Grove
Keep Me in Your Heart
That was a bigger list than I meant it to be. It's in some vague notion of chronological order...all his work is brilliant though.Comment
