I still recommend Canada. People are very nice, the food is generally good, lots of busker festivals. You do have to put up with snow - and plenty of french people though. All in all it's worth it, you really should move to Canada. I wouldn't think any less of you...

Well, North Korea is pissed off at us agian, which may lead to china being pissed off, and the whole middle east thing, then there are people in Russa that may get pissed off.
I'm 20, if this crap goes down, my ass is gonna get drafted and shot by someone who probably would have enjoyed my show. I have problems with my wrists and I can't do push ups, so that may keep me out of the dirt, but shit. I don't want to kill potential audience members.Comment

Sydney, land of the free......
Internet that is.
Brendon discovered that the IMAX theatre at DH is broadcasting a high-speed internet signal that can be tapped in to. I ran out and bought an airport card for my ibook and here I sit online at the pitch waiting for my show. How cool is that. (or maybe I am I just a geek?)Comment

I would just like to say, in Bush's defense, that our president is not a war-monger, nor does he just do dirty work for capitalist-industrialist scumbags.
In my opinion.
No, I think it much more likely that 13 days after his birth, George dubb'ya recieved a blow to the head from behind, rendering him nearly brain-dead, even unable to provide an eye-witness account of the attack. Investigation was further hindered by the fact that no one in the family reported the crime, although Barbara did recall George Sr. grumbling something along the lines of "...if I was Jim Henson I could have just waited till he was older and then jammed my hand up his ass" as he searched for extra-large ball peen hammers at Home Depot. Being as Dubb'ya's current condition is very similar to someone in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's like, I don't know say, Reagan, it is quite posssible, although only in a very severe, paranoid-schizophrenic, crystal clear sort of way, that George Sr. is ACTUALLY in charge of this country (far-fetched, I know) and has been since AT LEAST 1980. I Repeat, George W. Bush is NOT a war-monger, he is just 'differently abled'

the greatest threat to world security is a blow hard like bush. He is a war-monger and has a record for death-- one every two weeks when he was governor.
I think it's ironic that a draft-dodger is so eager to send others off to their graves in the name of liberty, freedom, democracy and other lies.
The man is scum.
etienne
p.s. dick gephart was on c-span the other day... it was a call in show. War is estimated to cost around 100 billion dollars (and that's the low end estimate given by the defense dept), so a caller asked where they plan to get that kind of money.
response: "well we plan to make up for the losses with the sale of iraqi oil"
in other words: PLUNDER. if it's good enough for the vikings, well hell it's good enough for us. Let's just rape and pillage to while we're at it! Go on boys, have some fun!
Freedom has a price, and it will be paid by anyone but fat-ass joe average american.Comment

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! How is this hapening? I'm gonna wind up with a bullet in my head by the end of this crap. People have been telling me all my life there would never be another draft and look at this. Damnit! I thought Democrats were supposed to be on my side, but they are just Republican lite. The world is a stupid place and I won't have to deal with it much longer cuz I'm gonna be choking on nuclear fallout in a sandy ditch somplace while I try not to fatally wound the guys on the other "side".Comment

Well, it's an interesting idea--if everyone, even the children of politicians and captains of industry, have to serve in the military, then the politicians will be less likely to involve us in a war.
Unfortunately, it's an idea that has as much chance of a successful transfer from paper to practice as Communism did. The rich and the politicians have always used their influence to assure that their children wouldn't die in our oh-so-righteous military actions.

Many European countries have mandatory military service for all men.
Of course, if we were to do that with our country, the good ol' U.S. of A, we would end up with a military-run state.
Oh. Never mind.

Tell that to Joe Kennedy, Teddy Roosevelt, and the boatload of other rich and powerful that have lost their sons in warfare.
I know plenty of 'poor' people that used their influence to avoid war. The double standard you exhibit is hysterical. It is okay to run to Canada to avoid the draft but God forbid your dad should grease the wheels with a couple of bucks to keep you home.
In my opinion there isn’t much of a difference. Some people feel it is their duty to serve. I may not agree with it but I respect it. Same way I bear no ill will to anyone who goes out of their way to avoid war using any means available.

I'm not sure that he was saying, can you believe those damn rich people. I think he might have been simply pointing out a loop hole in the proposed legislation. Also, why the hell should it just be men going to war? What ever happened to equal rights?
I'm fuming at the head

Oh jumpin Jesus on a pogo stick!
Let me try to make this clear one last time: the moving to Canada comment was tongue in cheek--a comment on my state of disillusionment at the moment. It was not an endorsement (or condemnation) of draft dodging.
And if my last post seemed to imply that all rich people and politicians use their influence to keep their children out of war, then let me clarify again, that is not what I meant. The fact is that it has been done--by those who did it. Mark, you are correct, I was simply pointing out a flaw in the logic of the Senator(?) who is proposing the legislation.
I'm moving. . .my bowels. (No, not really)

I need to clear some thing up for myself.
Are the intellectual giants leading us into the "War Against Terror" the same people that have been fighting the "War Against Drugs"?Comment

Well in my OWN opinion, everybody sucks! The Taliban suck cuz they killed innocent people, the US sucks cuz they killed innocent people,.... hell, in ALL wars, EVERYBODY sucks cuz EVERBODY is guilty for spilling of innocent blood! No one country is any better than the next; they're all guilty of killing eachother AND themselves in war! So.... PEOPLE SUCK!....(takes breath)... there. That's just MY opinion at least.
