The principle idea underlying the American ideology is "if you do not like what is going on, then change it. Make it better."

NOT "if you don't like the way we do things, then get the hell out."

Le pire, that was what I was indicating in my sarcastic fashion. It was his suggestion to leave, I was indicating that if you don;t have the balls to try to change things and would rather run away when displeased, then get the hell out. What we need is more people that will stand up for what they believe in and make this (or any other country) a better place. If one wants to say "I don't like this so I am going to go and take my ball someplace else." Who needs them.

Yeah, well Peter, until someone comes up with the "I'm so demoralized by all this shit that I want to cry" emoticon then you're really should ask me to clarify my meaning before you assume you understand my motivations. I do stand up for what I believe in. I do try to make a difference. And, goddamn it, I'm tired: We've got a war-mongering President who's trying to prove his political dick is as big as his father's; who, like his father, is gung ho to trade blood for oil--thereby drawing attention away from the utter failure of his ill-conceived war on (innocent civilians in the name of fighting) terrorism--and now the INS is trying to make up for spectacular blunders, like ok'ing visas for foreigners who had already committed acts of terrorism, by not only instituting an absurd and fascist-like registration policy, but locking up the people who are naive enough to comply with it.

This is right up there with the Japanese interment camps and the Tuskeegee Institute's syphilis study and it is not what I was taught the United States is all about. It depresses me that these kind of things are being done. That's what I was indicating in my sarcastic fashion--I mean, really Peter, did you think I actually meant I was moving to Canada? From Attorney General John Ashcroft's PREPARED REMARKS ON THE NATIONAL SECURITY ENTRY-EXIT REGISTRATION SYSTEM:

[quote]"We are an open country that welcomes the people of the world to visit our blessed land. We will continue to greet our international neighbors with good will."<hr></blockquote>

He just forgot to mention the part about how we will deceive and incarcerate those who are people from the wrong parts of the world.

16- Greenland voices concerns over role in ballistic shield plan
                      ----------
                      BBC
A Danish military base on Greenland is a key part of U.S. plans
for a ballistic shield program, but many Greenlanders are against
the plan. They want to renegotiate the treaty that allows Denmark
and the U.S. to make agreements without their input. (12/19/02)

I'm moving to Newfoundland ... I can use the extra half hour.

Besides, I believe I would be the best looking and smartest person on the whole island!

OK, not the best looking ...

all right, not the smartest ...

but I bet I'd be in the top 20 or 30 %tile (My combined SAT's were 1454 ... so what if it was in '67 and I've done so many drugs and consumed so much alcohol that I can't remember where I live most of the time ... aww, fuck it ... I'm not going anywhere ... my career didn't, why should I?

Thank you Stephon, for bringing this news to our attention, I don't get what Peter and Etienne are on? They seem so concerned with what they interpreted as your reaction that they missed the real issue ....what the *#ck are you lot talking about, there is a terrorist with with history's largest ever arsenal of weapons of mass distruction and distraction and he's squatting the white house and infiltrating congress. You have a red neck thug as a leader and he was NOT democratically elected! surely he is the greatest threat to international security there has ever been, surely he is the definition of an agressive dictator that needs to be stopped at all costs.Incidentlly this war is not about oil , it just a coincidence that all of the red-neck's staff are Chief Executives of oil conglomerates...pure coincidence ....the are 3 primary reasons for bombing Bagdad.....1) Saddam, tried to kill his Daddy ,2)
his domestic policy is flawed and he needs a distraction 3) It sets a precedent to engage military force when there is no clear and present threat. This precedent , once set will open the door for him, or any future war monger in power to use the threat of military action to ensure that all nation states everywhere kow tow to American will.

Yes. When I was younger, in the late 60's and early 70's poeple thought the war in Viet Nam was wrong. Some protested while others left to Canada so they would not be drafted. So I did take you seriously about going to Canada.

I do not have to agree with your political views (and I am not stating my politics in any way, shape or form here) But my point was
"DAMNIT!! Fight for what you believe in! Do not run!" You have just stated that you intend to do so. Good!
