Start From the Spine, bend and twist, bend and twist...it's tough but thats the way...\
Also you can bake the book on low heat which makes the paper more brittle....
You can also break the spine earlier using a kiife and some coloured dust to hide the cut...

Actually hold it at the outer edge, the one opposite the spine. Twist so that the pages form a wedge and start to tear at the tin edge of wedge. That way you are tearing one page at a time.

        Peter-

By your method the pages become looser the more your tear, making them *extremely* difficult to control. Nick is right, you gotta break the spine first and tear from that particular side. This keeps the two halves in very tight, neat packages. Plus, by your method, what do you propose to do with the spine itself? It would be just as "easy" to tear length-wise according to your method...

No you can not do it lengthwise it must be away from spine. The man who taught me that would tear the Brooklyn Yellow Pages in half. He was an old circus strong man and professional wrestler named Hard Boiled Haggerty.

Alternativly...you can look at the option of choosing the right Yellow Pages..
            .
e:g:..the yellow pages book of Haiti will be a lot smaller i:e: easier to tear, than the New York book...

Peter, please make up your mind.

You first say: "...hold it at the outer edge, the one opposite the spine." (And then tear TOWARDS the spine.)

But then you say: "...it must be away from spine." (Tearing AWAY from the spine.)

So which method do you really prefer? Nick and I agree that it must be the second, and we were only disagreeing with your first comment.

I was responding to "It would be just as "easy" to tear length-wise according to your method..." when I said that. I should have said "it must be the edge of the book opposite the spine." That would have been more clear. Sorry.
