    Thinking about Quiting...

I am on the edge of quitting the whole Entertainer-Vaudeville-Variety-Street performing-RenFaire-Stunt Comedy thing all together.

Anybody else ever have these thoughts?
    Anybody else ever quit?

    do tell.....

Well I happen to think you'd have to be seriously deluded to think that there was any more to life than light entertainment!

Quit, like yesterday, and mail me your contacts. I'll send you commissions, honest. I'm tall, why would I lie?

I've thought about quitting Renfair-stunt stuff but I realized I don't really do that stuff. Don't quit. I don't do that crap and someone has to.

its hard to answer 'cos we need to know why you are thinking of quitting...if you have come to the end of your tether and want to move on then yeah, moving on is always good...i have been streeting it for 13 years (fuck!) and am now looking to challenge myself in other areas, although i am not giving it up but am making time in the winter to explore other aspects of my work (teaching, indoor theatre, film etc!). I always think its important not to get stuck or trapped by this work, keep it fresh if you can or move yourself in new directions...enjoy...

            Good advice from em.
            Don't quit .....just change direction.
If you love performing how can you possibly quit anyway?
Maybe you're just in a rut doing too many 'going through the motion' gigs.
I just quit one of my bands for this reason - I'd been with them for 5 years - regular wk end healthily paid gigs - hard decision to quit cuz they're all mates, and it was half of my living down the pan.... but I found the gigs weren't pushing me anymore, and I didn't want to get to a point where I hated doing them. I never want to get to a point where I hate singing?
I now concentrate on my jazz project - alot less gigs - I've had to throw my energies in to finding the right kind of work. It's made me push in other directions.
Sometimes you have to close one door for another one to open
            .... something like that.

Don't quit; ditch the baggage, quit the donkey shit,
take a breather, if necessary do something else for a spell unrelated to performing, time out to think about it...

            Don't quit.......just switch roads.

              Quitting?

Yeah. Get your ass into a 9-5 desk jockey slave-driven dismal existence. Every day the same shit. You'll never regret it.

Then one day you'll wake up, you'll be 50 years old and think, "Shit, I've got a wife, a house, a job, and 2.5 kids!"

Then you'll realize that because of your pent up frustration of not having performed in so long, you've actually taken a chainsaw to your third kid.

Seriously though, I gave it up for a couple of years. Took a day job. I thought I'd given performing up permanently. Then I hit the street again, and realized why I'd started in the first place.

yeah but when doing the street becomes your "nine to fiver", which it can, then you may need a change as drastic as an office job! but if going and doing something else for a while makes you fall in love with it again then top banana...

Just remember that art is suffering and serious misery leads to good comedy. Then quit or don't quit. It doesn't matter. But the worry over the question is the important element. Stay miserable, make art.

First, if you can afford it take 2 weeks off and eat healthy. Exercise. stretch.sleep. Get your mind in a good state.
Hey, make a plan to just do gravy shows(artistic or cash wise). Cut out the ones you dont like. Or translate your show into a new language. Pick a forum or approach that is compelling to you.
Group shows? Theatrical shows? Concept shows?
Make a 5 year plan.Break it into years. Then break it down until you have a monthly list of tasks to complete. Incredible goals are reached with this method.(I just wrote my 5 year plan)

                              Hey Brett,

I recommend quitting. You can do something else, anything else. Go back to school or take up a trade, the world is your oyster. You can do or become anything that you want. If you're having negative thoughts about performing and the lifestyle get away from it for awhile. You can always take it back up if you find the real world doesn't agree with you.

Have I been watching too much Dr Phil? (actually I never watch Dr. Phil, should I start?)
