Yeah, But what Does Your Name *Look* Like?

Bwah hah hah. OK, So I'm bored. And it's January. In Canada. What the hell else is there to do...

Just for fun, go to Google, and hit the tab for image search. Then type in your name (Last, first) and see what happens. The search engine is constructed to look for the words you type in priority (same as other text-based searches) and then return the image found physically nearest to the words.

Just a few ferinstances, typing "Butterfly Man" returned the top 3 images of mothman himself (you media slut you). Martin came out 8 in his rankings. But Nicky was pages and pages and pages of other Nicks, and I frankly gave up. "The Jim Show" returned over 76,000 entries.

Sometimes it's funny to see what little images have to do with text, other times just funny to see what else is closely associated with your name.

The first image that popped up after typing my dad's name was a leather-clad, long-haired, acid rock band. Trust me, it's hilarious if you know my dad.

Traa laaa laaa ... off to find a life now...

Ok, Ok. After 10 minutes reconsideration, I thought I'd better add to this. I mean, the object is not to see how many times *you* pop up - you generally get over than about 2 minutes after plugging in your first high speed line. Rather, the fun was in the randomness of non-exact things I found. My sister-in-laws' name, for example, pulled a site along the lines of fatasstexaschicks. Juvenile, I'll grant.

I typed in Chalk Circle. 3 out the first 4 were our images, but would you believe Bill Ferguson (Juggler from Vanc.) came up at about #12?????????

It really helps to put the words you're looking for in "Quotes"

      Searching for:

The Jim Show - won't give you any images of me
"The Jim Show" - will give several of pics of me

      However searching for:

      Britney nude
      and
      "Britney nude"

gives pretty much the same results either way.

And by the way, none of the guys at "Jim Nude" are me.

      Jim

Come on help me here, "Chalk Circle" is not the world's most original phrase. There's a Toronto based rock band with the name and Bertolt Brecht's brilliant play. Hundreds of images from the play, lots of us and the band but in the first dozen or so, sits Bill. Why???
I'm starting to get paranoid. Bev and Ulla stayed at his place last year in Canada. Have secret deals been made? Am I being replaced by (shock, horror!!!) a juggler? Did he do Brecht? I played "the Judge" in 2 productions. Not one pic of me in 100's of pages, but of photo of Bill.
I will not relent until I get to the bottom of this conspiracy.

Looks like the engine grabbed an image from this page:

Apparently it appeared relevant to the search. If you look at the code of the page, you'll see Bill's photo is only one line away from the words "Chalk Circle" (which is listed below him in the roster.)

Search engines are pretty freaking amazing when you think about it, but they're still just computers.
