Jim -- What you did in Boston was great. I'll be out this week playing. I'll display a small sign saying: "In this time of need, musicians and performing artists throughout the world are offering their talents to beneift emergency service agencies. These proceeds will be distributed to the American Red Cross. Thank you."

If you're planning on playing and/or doing shows, please be specific and say that the proceeds from YOUR SHOW or THIS SHOW are going to the disaster relief. We had problems in Boston of other acts performing down near Quincy Market and NOT donating anything... If you're doing something, make sure you speak for yourself and not others who could be (unbelievably) profiting from the audiences' good faith contributions.

Also, if you're actually donating the money and you really believe in the relief effort, you'll be surprised at how generous people can be.

That is absolutely brilliant work Jim - good on ya.
Further to the misinformation, no less a source than the Globe and Mail ("Canada's National Newspaper")printed an even MORE bogus version of that supposed Nostradamus quote believing it to be true - so don't feel bad - there's a lot of paranoia and fearmongering hooey going around.

I just got this today about the Nostradamus thing (apparently Amazon.com is getting bombarded with sales for Nostradamus books -- a bestseller written hundreds of years ago):

The quatrain in question is: “In the city of York there will be a great
collapse/Two twin brothers torn apart by chaos/While the fortress falls
the great leader will succumb/Third big war will begin when the big city
is burning.” According to the Web site
          http://urbanlegends.about.com/librar.../aa091101b.htm this
passage is a hoax and was not written by Nostradamus.

This tragedy is a terrible loss of human life.I can't get with those that want to paint this as a "pro american or anti-american" drama. These people act as though the US Government has no history of coups and assassinations of democratically elected 3rd world leaders,as if this sad terrorist action somehow came out of the blue.
North Americans and western europeans are the only people in the world who dont understand WHY this happened. The US govt(not the US people}has spread terror and war all
over the world.Unfortunately,it is largely the people who pay the cost for US leader's
war mongering. It is also the Afgani people who will pay with blood because the US elite
has decided to arbitrarily point the finger at them for tuesday's terrorist tragedy. This whole thing is much bigger and deeper than a simple pro or anti "America" situation.
People are banding together to overcome this horrible event, and we must carry things forward to take power out of the hands of the war-mongers in office and boardroom.

I was still wondering when all out humour pertaining to the terrorist attacks on the United States would surface, and my questions were answered when I read http://www.theonion.com today.
The onion always has an interesting take on current events and I was wondering whether they would skirt this one as it has had such a profound impact on many people. I guess not.
Laughing during these times and specifically at events related to the terrorist attacks is important, as long as the attacks are not trivilized in any way. It's a delicate subject, and I think the onion has done a good job satirizing the situation.
